About this listen

The traditional Regency classic from New York Times best-seller Loretta Chase is back.…

A comedy of manners…

Her father’s prodigal ways have forced the extremely lovely Alexandra Ashmore into an engagement with a strange man in a strange land: a man blind to the effect her unearthly beauty has on other men, and which has earned her the title "the English Witch"! So when she’s kidnapped by another love-struck suitor, Alexandra assumes she’s truly doomed to a loveless marriage with her captor.

A villain redeemed…

But her troubles have only begun - for although she's quickly rescued, her brave "hero" is the notoriously irresistible, unrepentant scoundrel Basil Trevelyan, who finds himself quite taken with the tart, spirited Alexandra. So taken, in fact, that he’s determined to make her his own. Now, if he can only charm her into agreeing with his plan!

The narrator wad okay, just very breathy... but given the story maybe that was the point? But without sounding cruel there were parts of the story where I felt a bit uncomfortable listening to it because I felt like I was listening to a young girl read it to me which made some of the sections a bit awkward. As for the story itself, it was good, I liked it enough to where I felt like it deserved more pages and depth, but if you're looking for a quick fasted paced romance novel, this one is definitely good for that.

Good story, but way too fast...

After reading Isabella I looked forward to reading this second entry in the series. Starting in Armenia with a vague archeologist and his bewitching daughter we travel with them back to England accompanied by a handsome rake . Multiple engagements, one kidnapping, a couple of elopements and lots of lords and ladies keep the tangled plot moving. The dialogue is great fun and kept a smile on my face all the way through.

A Charming Romp

I am truly sad that at some point I’m no longer going to have any more books to read by Kathleen. This book was great and I cannot wait to read more in this series, I always enjoy her silly scenarios that her characters get into and of course how everyone seems to fall in love.

Another Masterpiece

The recording is very tinny. Narrator is a bit bland. Loretta Chase is brilliant as always.

narrator ok

I like reading early books by successful authors. The stories have bright nuggets of things that make us enjoy the later books.

This story is comfortably predictable, and good for relaxing with a cup of very English tea.

Older Chase books which I hadn't read have less complex plots than her later books but are very enjoyable in the audio format. Perfect performances.

Glad I went back for this

The story started off okay, but once the main characters returned to England it all started to go down quickly. I wasn't even able to finish the book.

Sometimes I can deal with one stupid character, but having both romantic interests being totally without sense ruins a story.

It was even more disappointing due to the fact that the previous book, Isabella, was rather good and I had high hopes for Basil.

The narrator was acceptable, but there always seems like the recording is too sharp or metallic sounding.

I have liked almost all of Loretta Chase's books especially the ones read by Kate Reading, but this one was not up to par with the others.

Beginning okay but …
