About this listen

Capable, clever Amanda Cavencourt is retuning to England from exotic India, where she has been managing her brother's household. With her, she brings a treasured memento - a beautiful statue, carved in sandalwood - a gift from her friend, a noted Indian princess.

When the statue is snatched from her, Amanda is determined to recover it and discover why the culprit, a dashing, notorious rogue known only as the Falcon, who is renowned for his dangerous skills in political intrigue, would want such an object.

Amanda vows to steal the statue back - but she may end up stealing the Falcon's heart instead! Or maybe it's her heart that's about to be stolen.

I love these older Loretta Chase novels. The hero is a (handsome) thief with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. The heroine is kind hearted and trusting. They are drawn to each other immediately, but can’t act on it because she believes he is not of her social class and he’s been employed to steal something from her. The story moves between India, the passenger ship to England and the English countryside. The minor characters like the chaperone, the maid, the valet and the Indian princess have distinct characters and add to the story.
The plot was fun and unpredictable, with lots of witty banter. My only regret is that it wasn’t longer.

She’s so naïve that he falls in love with her.

The story line was so so but the reader! Pure delight! She truly captured the darkness and romance of India.

Awesome Narrator

A nice little tale, positively no heat. Sweet sparks of warmth in well-painted scenes but it's as if the author never really got her story together. Multiple plots lines/romances lead to, for me, a pat ending and a hitherto hero being way to sappy in the end. overall, not credit worthy. I'm considering asking for a refund due to quite boring story.. Narrator was good.

Not up to par

Any additional comments?

Loretta never disappoint. A journey to India and back to England in this entertaining tale of a an interesting young woman and an even more unusual Crown agent. Very well written, which make Loretta's books so fascinating.

Entertaining and witty novel!

The recording is very tinny sounding. The narrator a bit bland. Loretta Chase is brilliant as always.

low production value
