About this listen

Once upon a time…

A town will only suffer the presence of a witch for as long as she is useful. Aisling watches the flames lick her thighs and prays for a quick death. But when an Unseelie prince appears through the smoke, she does what any self respecting witch would do.

She curses him.

Bran should never have traveled to the human realm, and is shocked when a witch binds them together. His life is hers and he refuses to die. He saves her from the fires, casts a hex on the townsfolk for good measure, then whisks her away to safety. His only stipulation? She has to remove the binding curse.

Unfortunately for them both, she can’t. Witch and Unseelie must travel across the Otherworld to break the ties that bind them. Secrets and lies stand between them, but both will stop at nothing to save themselves.

What?

I didn't really fully understand the ending. That has never happened to me with books, movies or T.V. series, so I'm not dumb...I think the writing could have been better. I gave the book 4 stars. I did enjoy most of the story, I'm still debating whether or not to listen to part 2 of this series.

Loved this book but . . .

I really loved this book, it’s world, the characters, and the narration but . . . There are no spicy scenes. There is a lot of tension built up which falsely lead me to believe we would have a spicy scene or two, but when that moment finally happens it’s a very YA explanation of what is happening and then it just ends. It was disappointing but not enough to keep me from continuing on with the story and liking the characters. I highly recommend reading this book.

BEYOND ALL EXPECTATIONS

Swan Princess is one of my favorite fairy tales and this book is now one of my favorite books! I was so invested and engulfed by this story I completely forgot about the whole retelling aspect. Bran *melts* Aisling *melts* the two of them together throughout this book *melts* The are delightfully hilarious and steamy and completely full of passion. They just sometimes (or almost always) have a different idea of what direction to take their passion. This is a journey that is masterfully woven together and events just slap you in the face. I loved every page and wouldn't change a thing other than it had to end. I had a book hangover when this was over which is a mark of an incredible book! YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. YOU'RE WELCOME!

Absolutely Loved!!!

I have a love of mythology. Celtic Mythology is a quickly becoming a favorite. S. Waring did just as fabulous a job narrating this book as with the previous ones. Can honestly say I will be purchasing this series on Kindle and Audible!!! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Beautiful retelling

Once upon a time…
A town will only suffer the presence of a witch for as long as she is useful. Aisling watches the flames lick her thighs and prays for a quick death. But when an Unseelie prince appears through the smoke, she does what any self-respecting witch would do.
She curses him.

The Faceless Woman is a Swan Princess retelling told with witches, familiars, and Unseelie princes, and it captivated me within the five first minutes.
The story starts off right before Aisling is to be burned on the pyre, and once it happened the excitement picked up and pulled me into the story. Emma paints her retellings within her worlds so beautifully it’s easy to get lost in, and her language and descriptions make it feel like a proper fairy tale. I had to stop myself from listening to everything in one go because I wanted to savor the enjoyment of the story.

All the characters are interesting, they have great dialogue, they have an enjoyable dynamic and inner monologue, they are likable and badass, and we are provided with a great backstory for each of the main characters which also leaves room for our own imagination. What I truly enjoy about these characters is that they are not perfect, and their looks are variated and well described – I must admit I fell in love with Bran’s looks the moment he was introduced.

The plot is fast moving and keeps things interesting all the way through the story. For a 315 pages long book, the romance is slow burning and well written. I truly enjoyed reading about their developing relationship, and I found the ending quite pleasant in regard to the dark tale.

Because I listened to the audiobook, I also need to give credit to the narrator, Siobhan Waring. She captures the atmosphere and the characters in a brilliant light. Each character has its own voice and accent, and I especially loved Aisling’s voice. Siobhan added the dot over the ‘i’ and truly made this feel like a fairy tale.

I would absolutely recommend this book to others, and I’d say you should listen to the audiobook for the extra fairy tale feel Siobhan Waring adds to the story.

Such a great listen!!

I listened to the first two books in this series and just fell in love with his world and its inhabitants. Book three is not available in an audiobook but I was thrilled to get book four. This listen really didn't have anything to do with the main characters in first two books but that's okay; it was a great story on its own.

Waring's narration is what elevates this story to its greatness. She is such a consummate performer that younever doubt that a with turned cat is talking to you. I can't wait for the next edition!!

I would read anything by Emma Hamm now!

Ok, I'm an Emma Hamm fan for life. Her stories are so original and new while still fulfilling all my desires for a fairy tale being retold in a fun way. I would highly recommend any of her work, and I love this narrator also! Siobhan has such a talent for expressing different characters thoughts and really making them believable. I truly loved this!
