About this listen

What if the cost of freedom is the very thing that threatens to destroy who you thought you were?

Nadine’s daring escape from the Northern Kingdom did little to calm her fears.

When she dropped Lady Christine’s dagger in the hidden dragon tunnels, she left a dangerous clue that provoked King Radolf to carve out a serious and potentially deadly change to his plan for world domination. He is not afraid to use the vilest of methods to lure in innocents to be part of his plans to retrieve what he has lost.

Now Nadine must prepare for a battle she never intended to be part of. One that could not only destroy the peace between humans and dragons, but also her dreams for her own future.

With strong world building this epic fantasy will also delight listeners of historical fantasy books, as it builds the politics, intrigue, and religious beliefs of the medieval period through this young adult clean listen.

The Fire Within the Storm, Book 2 of the Chronicles of Nadine series is an action packed, drama-filled epic medieval fantasy that challenges what it costs to confront your own fears and claim a higher purpose. Listeners will have to confront what they believe to be true on social issues of the time. They will face dragons, kings, and queens in a time when dark forces will stop at nothing to gain power.

The stakes are high, and Nadine and her tribe must draw on their inner courage and sense of honour like never before. And this battle will test their beliefs in ways that they could not imagine.

This Christian fantasy and adventure is a series of well fleshed out characters with the complexity of Game of Thrones, and where danger and deception lurk on every side.

In a race against time, will Nadine conquer her inner demons to rise against the power that threatens to destroy the hope of mankind.

Dragon Whisperer

This story is a continuation of the first book. We follow along on Nadine’s path towards becoming a dragon whisperer. We also find out more about what is going on with a variety of other characters in this medieval fantasy.

I enjoyed the interesting storyline and detailed descriptions that Kim Vermaak has written. I’m definitely invested in the story and will be continuing on with the series.

Amy Lovato did a fine job with the narration. She did a great job of portraying the many different characters.

YA Medieval Christian Fantasy With Dragons Book 2

The adventure continues in book two, and these books do need to be read in order. It's pretty clean (*** parents read below) with a fun mix of fantasy, dragons, Christian/Catholic themes, and medieval adventures. I felt like book two had a better flow to it. There still is a lot going on between all the different characters and plots. I was definitely more invested in the story and needed to see where it went. This one was also a bit darker with some of the topics and scenes intensified. I do like the Christian element to it, the author does a fairly good job incorporating it without making too preachy, but there were a couple times it did go pretty preachy. I am really looking forward to see where book three goes with the story.

***Parents: PG13- probably 15+ This book has some potentially triggering scenes related sexual assault and abortion. It is free of bad language or overly graphic violence, and there is romance (mainly kissing). There are some scenes revolving around prostitutes, abortion and the bones of many of the aborted babies. I would place it as being geared for high school to adult readers.

The narrator does a good job with the voices. I found the pace a bit slow but turning the speed up to 1.25x helped.

Gripping!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

It’s always so wonderful to hear the book come alive!! I did an Amazon review of the kindle version of this book and when I saw that it was available on audible I had to get it! There is something very satisfying when you hear the characters come to life!
This book helps to set up for the next book and also helps you understand the length that King Radolf is willing to go to to basically be king of all the lands. King radolf is a feared man as he uses deception and secrecy to take over places and to try and influence men of the church.
Nadine of course now needs to accept her life but is still struggling with parts of it. I do believe that the only way she will be able to accept all parts of her dragon whisperer life is if she sees her trainer do so as well.
And lady Christine is forced to start facing her past. Something many people do not like doing. But it is always so therapeutic when you do finally take that first step. It’s not easy and it’s not over but the healing has just begun.
Great dragon book, lots of action and planning. I recommend to all fantasy and all medieval era lovers.

Intriguing

Loved this different concept with dragons. A kind dragon. Morality is what it’s all about. The narrator made the entire story come alive

What a great series!

I cannot say enough about this series! great continuation from the first book. I happily followed along with Nadine through her journey to become a dragon Whisperer. the writing weaves in intricate picture in your mind and endears you to all of the characters. even makes you a bit nauseous when introduced to other characters in the book. I know King Roald off is the threat, would like to see him more developed and vile. I am also very interested to see if anything happens to Friar wa tt in the next book, that is a very intriguing subplot.
Overall, generation is superb. I love her calmness when we need calm, There is a good definition between characters.
I absolutely cannot wait for the next book to see what happens!
Is truly, if you love something that is cleanly written with well developed characters and a great storyline, this series is it! I love it!

More of the same.

Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. The Fire Within the Storm continues the YA/Christian fiction series The Chronicles of Nadine. It is an alternate medieval history series with dragons and a soft magic system. Book two carries on where book one left off, following Nadine on her journey to become a dragon whisperer. If you liked book one, you will probably enjoy book two. I found the story engaging, and would consider reading the next book to see what happens. The prose was a little bit clunky, especially in the audio, but I still enjoyed it. It definitely pushes the Christian worldview (which is not unexpected it is Christian fiction), it can however do so in a way that seems a little bit more preachy than I would prefer. Narration was fair, but did not lift itself over and above, I was never confused about who was speaking and was able to listen at my normal pace.

Good Story. Too Gorey

The narrator was good and the plot was very intriguing...but I couldn't get past the fifth chapter of the first book because of the vulgar way the author described the bodies of the dead. I chose to read this book in the hopes of letting my kids read it one day, and it is no where near clean enough for that. Skulls burnt clean and oozing on the ground is definitely not ok with me. But the story was a good one and I really wish I could have finished it.
