About this listen

To stay sane, Andie Tilly must keep her mind on her work. Her job as a pediatric occupational therapist is the perfect distraction from the unspeakable tragedy she experienced as a child. But when she meets alternative-energy magnate Rhys Griffiths and his autistic toddler, Will, she quickly realizes her heart will never be the same. Especially when her name becomes Will's first word.

After accepting a position as a live-in therapist for Will, Andie steels herself against the appeal of the disconcertingly attractive - and attracted - Rhys. But their chemistry can no longer be denied, and their heated affair seems destined for happily ever after. A destiny Andie's terrified to embrace.

When Andie's guilt, Rhys's awkwardness, and the abrupt appearance of an erratic ex threaten to dismantle their delicately blooming relationship, they must decide if love is worth the challenge. Can Andie and Rhys find their way back to each other? Or will the demons of the past simply prove too strong?

Great Read!

What did you love best about The First Word?

The concept is centered around an autistic toddler with two adults who are not perfect. The father is a brilliant man, with possible non-diagnosed Asperger's, and the therapist has dealt with her mother's rejection for over 17 years, something that has left her with a lack of self worth. Assisting with this toddler, she hopes will help restore her faith in herself.

Amy McFadden's performance added to the story. Her voices are easily distinguishable and she brings the characters to life.

Which scene was your favorite?

Andi's first visit to the OT room in the house. It showed the extent the father was willing to go to for his son, and hie excitement at being able to finally do something positive for his son.

Any additional comments?

I listened to this nearly non-stop over a weekend. I wanted to find out how the three might become a family.

This was a very well written and produced book. This is the author's first published book, and it is well worth the credit.

I received the Kindle book as a Kindle First, and ordered the audiobook as soon as I found it available. I look forward to reading the book, and will probably listen to this again.

Insightful and Sweet!

As Autism is my area of specialty, I enjoyed how the author wove it in.

The First Word is less about Autism...

...and more about a love story. It’s not my cup of tea. I expected to read a story about an autistic boy, but it turned out to be more about a traumatized woman looking for love and acceptance. Also, it’s 3rd POV, which I despise. If you’re into sappy love stories, you’ll love it!!!

I'm so glad I took the plot to read this book in advance of publication offered as past of the Kindle First program. I fell in love with the characters, especially the little boy. This have an excellent look into the life of a family of an autistic child. Wonderful love story is blended in. Happy reading 📚!

Great for Ronance Lovers!

I enjoyed the narrator. She has a great voice, really separated the characters, and acted out the mood of each characters voice exquisitely. The story is fun, with just enough angst and romance.

Cute but lacking

The story was sweet, really, but this is definitely light, summer reading. Just a cute romance with very little depth.
