About this listen

A humble fisherman’s life is changed forever when he catches a genie who fills his net with magical fish, the first of many unusual transformations in this ancient tale.

Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

This title is part of The Audible Sleep Collection, exclusive audio experiences created to help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up in the right morning mindset. New and free for members.

What story?

This recording is supposed to be a sleep aid, and so it is. For many nights I was determined to hear this odd little story, but never made it past the first five minutes before I fell asleep. I found, in the morning, that the whole thing had played, and I could remember nothing but the lull of the narrator’s amazingly calming voice. One day I decided to listen in a conscious state, and sort of wish I had not. It is quite a fantastic yet unsatisfying story. Much of it makes no sense, and the ending is not an ending at all. Perhaps there is another more authentic version of this tale somewhere in the world, but the story is not the point of this recording. It is to help one get to sleep. In fact, I’m feeling a little <yawn> sleepy right n . . . .z . Z . Zzzzzzzzz.

Prentice has the best voice of humankind, story is whack in a good way

I love all the bedtime stories Prentice reads because I LOVE his voice! Ok the story is a bit crazy, perhaps a touch stimulating for some but for me I listen to the stories over and over again so it’s only riveting the first time through.

Yes it ends at a climax! Fear not, this famous tale can be completed through Internet synopsis. On Wikipedia: “The Fisherman and the Jinni” go to the synopsis section, last paragraph will pick up where audible left off.

Left hanging

This story was really good until it just stopped and you were left hanging. No conclusion.

Soothing sleepy tale

Such calming voice by Mr. Onayami. Thought this was a familiar tale, but it is not.

Too Interesting for bed!!!!

Even with the monotone reading I could not go to sleep listening to the story! I am so enthralled by this story - I need to know if there’s another book, it leaves you on a cliff hanger!
Please explain More, take us on the journey of the history of the man in the black castle. Do not write this as a bedtime story LOL! We need more stories like history of mathematics to go to sleep Not enthralling books of Genies and curses and fantastic story line 😆

A charming story from 1001 Nights

Onayemi has the perfect soothing voice to lull me to sleep with this fairy tale. The story-teller, Scheherazade, tells her husband a new tale every night but often leaves the ending for the following night. Her husband, the king, has a pattern of marrying a virgin and then having her beheaded the following day. Scheherazade has found a clever way of remaining vital to him and preserving her own life. Check out “1001 Arabian Nights” for the ending.

The fisherman and the genie

I was excited to see Prentice Onayemu as story teller. His soothing voice and articulation is perfect. I listen to his other audible stories the meditations by Marcus Aurelius and my favorite, Micromegas over and over again for guaranteed sleep in minutes. Thanks for making another and keep them coming!

Prentice Onayemi has the most soothing voice.

This is my #1 goto when I want to fall asleep fast. The narrator's voice is so calm and soothing and his delivery is perfect for relaxing and letting your mind go. Love it!
