About this listen

A gripping literary horror novel about the death of a haunted town

On winter solstice, the birds disappeared, and the mist arrived.

The inhabitants of Nebulah quickly learn not to venture out after dark. But it is hard to stay indoors: Cabin fever sets in, and the mist can be beguiling too.

Eventually only six remain. Like the rest of the townspeople, Pete has nowhere else to go. After he rescues a stranded psychic from a terrible fate, he’s given a warning: He will be dead by solstice unless he leaves town - soon.

Overall it was kind of boring. There were a few interesting parts and the end was pretty great but there seemed to be ALOT of filler in between the holiday trip and the climax at the end...
The narrator did a fantastic job though.

Lots of filler

This story was a great classic horror story.
The distraction for me was to the editing. The reader is going along and suddenly the sound changes, you can tell the corrections were done at different settings. There is one place that repeats about 2 minutes of dialogue.
Other than that, I enjoyed the story line. Hated the ending, but I think we are supposed to!

Worst editing, good story

Very well written. Story, underlying messages regarding words great ie: deserve and loneliness derived over time.

the cause of the mist is never explored. why wouldn't writers and paranormal groups swarm the place looking for answers?
characters are pretty well written but the story as a whole leaves a lot to be desired.

After hearing the first chapter, I had no idea what the book was about. There wasn't anything too exciting to reel you in. It was bursting with minutia, and I couldn't detect a storyline or plot. There's a balance that needs to be struck between minutia and actual story.
I didn't enjoy how a female character was treated. They made her out to be some whimpering scared little woman who people yell shut up at. The author descibes her totally appropriate reaction and poses her as a whiny babbling fool. The story is cold and just disappointing.

Too Much Minutia & Bad Tropes

The story was great, but it was the writing that hooked me. I can’t wait to see what else this author writes in the coming years; something tells me she’s just getting started!

This was a fabulous story that I just couldn’t stop listening to. I’ll be a repeat listener for certain. Excellent story, characters you get attached to, and I was sad when it finally came to an end.

Excellent

An enjoyable little tale of a town trapped in a devilish nightly mist. It does get spooky in spots but is mostly about people and their reactions to the inexplicable in both the natural and supernatural world. Thought provoking and easy listen, the latter thanks to excellent narration that brings all the characters to life...even when they are not, strictly speaking, alive.
My one complaint would be that the last few minutes of the conclusion do not really work. I think the goal is to leave some question as to what really happened but to avoid spoilers, constant listener, I will leave that bit to your judgement

The Mist Down under, what a hoot!
