Got better as the stories continued

I wasn't sure what to expect but I enjoyed this book by the time it finished. I wasn't sure at first but I am glad I stuck with it tot he end.

good stories

old friends from the commonwealth and a lot of new new friends. it made me want to read/listen to more ADF. no new pip and flinx in this collection :( they are my favorite. I like the ice Honeymoon story, I want to read/listen to ice riggers now. I liked the blob assistant but wish it would have had a happy ending. I got all the pip and flinx downloaded from audible and have kept finding more.
Thank you!

Who selected this Narrator?

I adore everything that Foster writes, but gawd this is the most pedantic narration imaginable. He sounds like Doug on “Up”.
Painful.

Great Writer, Crappy Narrator

Alan Dean Foster is prolific and skilled. I enjoyed revisiting some old friends and familiar worlds, as well as some new ideas and places to explore.

But please, whoever is the god of narration, never ever let Tom Bishop read anything but repair manuals from this day forth!

His male characters sound either like bumpkins, or gangsters who have escaped the cutting room floor of several bad James Cagney movies! His female voices are either simpering or strident.

I almost stopped listening barely five minutes into the book because I didn’t care to be spoken at like a toddler.

To summarize; Alan Dean Foster = great writer. Tom Bishop = crappy narrator.

Foster all the way

The writing was wonderful. I really like Tom Bishop's voice, but the reading was a bit wooden and some of his pronunciation was off. Still an enjoyable set of short fiction.
