About this listen
This funny and insightful science fiction classic introduces Shoogar, the greatest wizard ever known in his village. His spells can strike terror in the hearts of even his most powerful enemies. But the enemy he faces now is like none he has ever seen before. The stranger has come from nowhere and is ignorant of even the most basic principles of magic. But the stranger has an incredibly powerful magic of his own. There is no room in Shoogar's world for an intruder whose powers match his own, let alone one whose powers might exceed his. So before the blue sun can cross the face of the red sun once more, Shoogar will show this stranger just who is boss.

Skeeve is a magician’s apprentice (and a wanna-be thief) until an assassin’s bolt kills his master, Garkin. Along with Aahz, the green-scaled, purple-tongued demon and master magician summoned by Garkin, he sets out on a quest to get even. The road to vengeance is bound to prove rocky, however, because Skeeve can barely light a candle with his beginning magic, and Aahz has lost his own considerable magical abilities as a consequence of Garkin’s summoning spell.

Story
In the land of Malgar, where the essence of balance once weaved through the very fabric of life, shadow casters—masters of the arcane, summoning creatures and weapons born of shadow—long stood as vanguards of harmony. But when fear sparked a purge that intended to extinguish their ancient art, the world teetered on the brink of chaos. But turmoil brought forth reform and rising from the ashes of distrust, three young casting trainees, Kaito, Sumi, and Nigel, emerge as beacons of hope within the reinstated Legion of Shadow Casters.

Story
Our retro-tech towns might seem idyllic, yet go beyond the arcades and coffee shops and you'll reach the danger zones roamed by bionic bots. Me? I ran a video store with my cute friend Emiko. She's always been a little different, so I had to look out for her—we usually just watched movies and played games together. One day, a suspicious pink-haired chick burst into the store, warning me not to watch a tape labeled Property of Steelheart—Do Not Watch! So obviously, I did, and a terrifying ghost crawled out of the screen.

One dimensional characters
I was greatly disappointed. I think it could have been good or great if Niven was the sole author. The story was basic and extremely predictable. Will not be reading a sequel if it comes out.
The narration was great though in spite of the story.
