Publisher's summary

The Fundamentals of Public Relations: What It Is and How to Do It Well gives listeners a complete understanding of the essentials of the discipline and teaches them how to apply and practice them successfully. While many standard textbooks concentrate on explaining what public relations is, The Fundamentals of Public Relations also emphasizes how to conduct public relations and initiate successful public relations tactics.

After a brief introduction to the field the book moves to public relations research and the legal implications of public relations practice. Separate and distinct chapters are devoted to employee, media, community, consumer, and government relations.

Essential forms of communication are discussed in chapters on public relations writing and social media. The book concludes with an examination of the future of public relations and the role of tomorrow's practitioners.

The Fundamentals of Public Relations effectively combines an introduction to key concepts with a practical approach to successful implementation.

Good for startups, business owners

The audiobook was very instructive albeit the monotone and somewhat uninspiring narration. It provides a very good overview on what PR is and how to use it within your organization.

By listening to this audiobook you will learn:

+ Why is PR important for your business
+ What PR can do and cannot do / misconceptions
+ Who PR deals with
+ Your PR opportunities
+ What is the relationship between medias and PR - quite long and informative chapter
+ How should your PR behave
+ What skills is required for effective PR
+ Some useful rules to follow

I think the whole book lacks to understand its target audience and doesn't give enough examples, or at least real world business-related examples. It however remains an easy to understand book that covers the topic in-depth.

It's a great addition for those interested in startups books or for curious minds desiring to have a kick start in PR. I don't think the book would be a great for academics who already studied in that field - go with the marketing equivalent instead.

TL;DR; the book won't give you advanced mind-controlling techniques and ninja PR skills. Read it if you'd like to understand what's PR all about (the title says it all).
