About this listen

A paranormal investigation goes horribly wrong....

From Ferrel D. Moore, author of Tainted Blood, comes The Ghost Box. A cryptic letter from her husband Michael's grandmother fills his wife Ashley with a foreboding that proves disastrously accurate. Now her friends are dead, her husband missing and she's hunted by an evil from Michael's past. In another part of the country, Ian Hunter confronts a family secret over a century old. He must find a way to stop a terrible creature from destroying everyone and everything he cares about. Together, Ashley and Michael face an onslaught of paranormal forces in their search for the only means of their salvation - a device called the ghost box. But the ghost box has a devilish guardian and the device leaves only death and despair in its wake.

The Ghost Box

I enjoyed this book. The characters were well written. The elements didn't always mesh well, but you get through it.A letter from the grandmother of her husband makes Ashley leery. Her husband throws it away. After a trip to a haunted amusement park goes horribly wrong,Ashley finds out that her husband is not who she thought he was.Theresa Stephens does a fine job with narration.I was provided this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.

Interesting

The narration of this book was excellent. The story was engaging and the action constant. With all the gruesome deaths throughout the book, the ending was a bit anticlimactic in my opinion. There isn't a cliff hanger exactly, but the story is left open ended for the next book in the series.

Mysteries within mysteries

Any additional comments?

Really good narration and a good story. I've stated many times, I wish the star system for rating was at least in halves. The reason is the story was good, but I gave the author the benefit of 4 stars. This is a good story, but has some pretty weird developments throughout. Overall though a good listen as I have really enjoyed the recent ghost stories I've listened to.

Average Ghost Story

Any additional comments?

The first half of this book was a little confusing for me but I suspect that was only because I wasn't very into it. I listened to the whole thing and it definitely got a bit better. The characters are quirky, the plot is spooky and the villain(s) are paranormal. There is an element to it (can't describe without spoilers) that seems unattached to the main story and confuses things- it would have been a better tale if it had been more streamlined. I probably wouldn't recommend this book to friends only because I think there are far superior ghost stories out there. Nothing WRONG with this one, just not at all the best. The narration by Theresa Stephens was lovely! I would listen to more books that she narrates.

A Hard Working, Robust Ghost Story

“The Ghost Box” is a different type of ghost story in its setup than what one would traditionally expect to read. That alone got my attention. That being said, being different than a typical ghost haunting a place or a person still isn’t enough to recommend a book. Author, Ferrel D. Moore seems to have understood that because “The Ghost Box” also offers multiple story threads that eventually need to converge as well as interesting characters to care about. Starting with the characters who are unfairly bound by the actions of their familial predecessors.

“The Ghost Box” definitely works hard for your book enjoyment. It gives you a complex plot, paranormal activity, creepy atmosphere and situations, witchcraft and some quality scares. If all that can’t win you over, nothing will.

Stone/Ghost Box

I enjoyed listening to this book (even though I read it on Kindle in July) a bit drawn out and a little complex. I really like the characters of Granny, Ashley and Evan. I think another book is needed due to the ending. Recommend to anyone who likes horror. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. Thank you.

Made me hold my breath in parts

There were some parts in this book where I found myself letting out a huge breath which made me realize that I was holding my breath for a pretty long time! That doesn't happen very often when I'm listening to a book, so that's pretty high praise.

The only downside I have to mention is that there were some times when I wanted to reach into the book and slap a character on the back of the head. Like the person who wouldn't listen to a loved one near the start who warned them that it was too dangerous to go out in that weather and they idiotically disagreed. Even the most casual observer sees disaster now coming a million miles away, and I know the author could have done a better job setting up that disaster than making the person just an arrogant moron who wouldn't listen.

But that's my only nit-picky complaint. The rest of the story after the clumsy setup flowed well and had plenty of breath-holding moments that I won't spoil! Give it a listen and see if you agree. Narrator was awesome and didn't overdo it though it might have been tempting at times because the writing was tight and could have lead to over-dramatic leanings, but kudos to the narrator for her restraint and talent.
