About this listen

How could such a dark secret have been kept for so many years?

Police Chief Greg Adams was out on patrol. Christmas was coming to Saxonburg, Pennsylvania - a quaint borough of just 1,300 - in three short weeks. The winter air was crisp. Colored lights sparkled on houses. He was only a block and a half from the police department, and this was just an average traffic stop. Until it wasn’t.

The devoted husband and father of two little boys was about to meet any law enforcement officer’s nightmare. Moments later, he would lay dying in a pool of his own blood on that white winter snow, while his killer vanished like an apparition into thin air.

Despite his many aliases, the true identity of the murderer was quickly found. The killer himself was not.

As state police and FBI investigators peeled back the twisted layers of low-level mobster Donald Webb’s life, the path to the killer would wind through decades...toward a shocking conclusion. After all, secrets can only be kept for so long.

Not justice but closure

I find it very interesting reading stories with locations near me. This one was about an hour away, and I was familiar with many places mentioned. I must admit that I became emotional several times as I listened. It is uncanny how conniving and devious this cop killer was. I am impressed with the tenacity and perseverance over the years for closure of this case. Lillian infuriated me,and I can't fathom her motives and actions. I feel such rage for her. I consider her as vile as Donald himself. This was a hard but great read. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life. This narrator has a voice made for this type of book and mysteries too. Very enjoyable to listen to and I felt very connected.

Interesting all the way thorugh

When I first started listening to this book I was concerned that it would run out of steam maybe half way through. After all they chased this guy for dozens of years and never caught him. A book celebrating a failed hunt doesn't sound all that entrancing.

I was glad I hung in there though as this was a very enjoyable listen to all the way through. The dedication of so many policeman in many pars of the country was inspiring and made the story very impactful.

I think some credit for keeping me so interested has to be shared with the narrator as well. His down to earth, calm but serious tone was perfect for the material. A great voice for true crime.

Excellent story

More people need to listen to the lives of the police and what their families endure and the process it takes to find a killer.

True Crime

This book was fascinating. It doesn't snag your interest so much as it provides a documentary review of all steps taken over the course of several decades to close the case of the police chief's murder. It is interesting but just not in the way a fiction adventure might. I do highly recommend it if you enjoy true crime documentaries.

Beyond Horrible Narrator

I know I have days where I don’t care about my job but…yeesh this narrator. This dude ruins the whole book. I didn’t even make it past the first chapter, switched to text. This man should never be allowed to work as a narrator again. Way to ruin a perfectly fine story.
