About this listen

Discover 10 vital and extraordinary life lessons from one of the most important and influential philosophers and peace activists of the 20th century - Mahatma Gandhi - in this poignant and timely exploration of the true path from anger to peace, as recounted by Gandhi's grandson, Arun Gandhi. In the current troubled climate, in our country and in the world, these lessons are needed more than ever before.

"We should not be ashamed of anger. It's a very good and a very powerful thing that motivates us. But what we need to be ashamed of is the way we abuse it." (Mahatma Gandhi)

Arun Gandhi was just 12 years old when his parents dropped him off at Sevagram, his grandfather's famous ashram. To Arun, the man who fought for India's independence and was the country's beloved preeminent philosopher and leader was simply a family member. He lived there for two years under his grandfather's wing until Gandhi's assassination.

While each chapter contains a singular timeless lesson, The Gift of Anger also takes you along with Arun on a moving journey of self-discovery as he learns to overcome his own struggle to express his emotions and harness the power of anger to bring about good. He learns to see the world through new eyes under the tutelage of his beloved grandfather and provides a rare three-dimensional portrait of this icon for the ages.

The 10 vital life lessons strike a universal chord about self-discovery, identity, dealing with anger, depression, loneliness, friendship, and family - perfect for anyone searching for a way to effect healing change in a fractured world.

Truly a Gift of Gandhi!

Terrific book! Captured Gandhi's spirit and heart however I felt his grandson spoke greatly of his own political views. I do get the point he was attempting to make in expressing those view points. Stressing the need for peace practices instead explosive leadership. Overall wonderful book!

A Generous Offering to Us All

I cannot fully express my gratitude to Ghandi’s grandson for writing and reading this book. God, it reminds me so much of how I used to talk with my grandpa. My talks with my grandpa taught me the treasure of conversation and how it’s where love can grow. I’m so proud of Ghandi and his grandson for writing this book. It truly touched my heart. And I want his grandson to know that the movie Ghandi was so important to me. It had shown me a true path to becoming a better man. I’ll never forget it, nor the lessons in this book. I will re-listen to this book from time to time the rest of my life. I thought it was about anger, but it’s much more than that. God bless the author and his grandpa.

Life-Changing Book

This book has been life-changing for me. The depth of insights about the world we live in, human nature, and our role in bringing about positive change were at once inspiring, hopeful, meaningful, and immediately applicable to life. Every chapter left me feeling awed and in possession of new knowledge with which to live my life with increased meaning and purpose. I feel so lucky to have heard this story... I just can’t stop thinking about it. I recommend this book highly. If you will only read one book this year, “The Gift of Anger” should be the one.

The war inside of us, a meaningful solitude

A inspiring and moving book that reminds us that joy is not in the victory itself but in the attempts and sufering to overcome our collective struggles. More than ever, the stories accounted by Gandhi's grandson are an opportune call for reconciling the "We" with the otherness "Them".

if at first you don't understand, give it a chance

I love this book from beginning to end. At first, I had a difficult time understanding because I was not used to the author's voice. But he held me captive with the stories, and I learned to enjoy not only his accent, but his perspective and wisdom.
I have more respect and admiration for Gandhi, and his influence on the world then I expected or thought possible!

Absolutely Wonderful

I loved this book! The teachings are brilliantly simple. I feel like I got to know Gandhi and understand the nonviolent movement. The way I think of nonviolence has changed and I feel like this book and the lessons in it has given me a very applicable way to be a better person and to be happier. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Now more than ever

This is a poignant and timeless book, I was struggling with the anger and sadness I was feeling over the most recent brutal mass shooting event, the wisdom in this book is helping me not only to deal with my anger and sorrow but to consider actionable items in community movements to inspire those who seem apathetic to the brutal and unnecessary killing of children, teachers in the powerless. I needed this book and it found me and just the right time.
