About this listen

Young Jerry West has a few problems. His uncle Crispin is broke and employs a butler who isn't all he seems. His other uncle, Willoughby, is rich but won't hand over any of his inheritance. And to cap it all, although already engaged, Jerry has just fallen in love with the wonderful Jane Hunnicut, whom he's just met on jury service. But she's an heiress, and that's a problem too - because even if he can extricate himself from his grasping fiancée, Jerry can't be seen to be a gold digger. Enter "the Girl in Blue" - a Gainsborough miniature which someone has stolen from Uncle Willoughby. Jerry sets out on a mission to find her - and somehow, hilariously, everything comes right.

convoluted and fun

P G Wodehouse speciallized in wacky convoluted romances. Great fun to listen to, but with such a large cast of characters, you need to listen closely.

Dry wit

The plot is simple. Straight forward. The dialogue and pace are delightful. PHW’s exposure of the absurd finds its best expression read aloud.

Brilliant

The heroes are anti-heroes, the anti-heroes are heroes, and if you don’t find yourself laughing at some point, you’ve got some catching up to do. No one plays on the planet the way Wodehouse did. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Funny story

A funny story of complications and misunderstandings with unlikely characters. Romantic failures (and wins), gambling debts, thievery and threats. Loved it!

Rare Undiscovered Wodehouse

High quality Wodehouse. PG humor, writing clarity, and fun recycling of oft used gags refreshing. Narration on par with J. Cecil.

PG Wodehouse

A good strong piece of Wodehouse early writing. Entertaining as always. Good reader. After you’ve read all of the Jeeves stories many times and all of the Blandings series many times, it’s good to have more solid Wodehouse to keep your spirits up.
