About this listen
The quintessential comedy master returns with another tale that will have you laughing out loud and yearning for more.
For Edmund Biffen Christopher, life is about to be very good - assuming he can stay out of trouble. If he can avoid being arrested until his 30th birthday, he will inherit his godfather's millions. The trouble is Biff has a certain proclivity for getting into fisticuffs...particularly with policemen. And he's already nearing 30.
Adding to his troubles is Lord Tilbury, who wants the fortune for himself. If Tilbury can make Biff fall foul of the law, his wish will come true. True to form Wodehouse will see to it that everyone gets what's coming to them one way or another.

The hideous Walsingford Hall is home to an odd assortment of coves…The vile premises belong to Sir Buckstone, who is in a little financial difficulty. So for a little monetary help he puts a roof over the heads of people like (among others) Tubby Vanringham, the adoring slave of cold-hearted Miss Whittaker. His brother Joe has fallen head over heels for Sir Buck’s daughter, Jane. She, however, only has eyes for Adrian Peake, who has already formed a liaison with the terrifying - but superbly wealthy - Princess Dwornitzchek. Is there no end to the confusion?

We find ourselves in the austerity of the 1950s, when England's aristocracy was feeling the pinch. Bertie Wooster has gone to a residential self-help school to learn how to darn his socks. Until he re-emerges, Jeeves has signed up with Bill Rowcester (pronounced Roaster), an earl who is failing to make ends meet in trade, and yearning to sell his stately home, which has charm and damp in equal measure. Most of the big money belongs to Torquil Paterson Frisby, the dyspeptic American millionaire--but that doesn't stop him wanting more out of it. His niece, the beautiful Ann Moon, is engaged to "Biscuit", Lord Biskerton, who doesn't have very much of the stuff and so he has to escape to Valley Fields to hide from his creditors. Meanwhile, his old school friend Berry Conway, who is working for Frisby, himself falls for Ann--just as Biscuit falls for her friend Kitchie Valentine. Life in the world of Wodehouse can sometimes become a little complicated.

After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. What in the world are you doing here?
Once again you have entered the topsy-turvy joyful world of PG Wodehouse . Of course everything is going to end up just fine but in the process you’re going to be riding the roller coaster of twists and turns. Enjoy!

Delightful and charming
No Jeeves or Wooster in sight and yet I enjoyed it greatly. These characters were less foolish and not such drains on society as Wooster and friends. I found them more likable and easier to cheer for wholeheartedly. I will always enjoy Jeeves and Wooster, but this was refreshing and fun.

not peak Wodehouse
This isn't Wodehouse at his best, but it is still better than most other writers put out!
Simon Vance does a credible job as narrator, even if I think Jonathan Cecil is the best.
the story has all the old Wodehouse contrivances; the affable but impecuneas young man about town, the unpleasant rich Lord as a villain, a fortune at stake, etc.
It lands some punches well and typical Wodehousian flairs of prose are always wonderful.
I promise you, get through the 1st chapter. it improves drastically.

A delightful comedy
P.G. Wodehouse knows how to write an enjoyable read or, in this case, listen. I came across his writings years ago when I was in high school and have loved his books ever since. He used the idea of frozen assets in many different ways in this book including the inability to procure trousers! 😂

Very good Wodehouse tale, excellent narration
Biff stands to inherits millions, provided he can make it to his 30th birthday without getting arrested (something he's had happen frequently up to this point). Lord Tilbury believes the money should be his, so he tries to arrange tussles with the police for poor Biff. A fun, enjoyable tale, and Simon Vance is a master narrator.

Always a Treat
Any Wodehouse story is a joy. This was fun because the characters were all new to me yet every bit as entertaining as Bertie and Jeeves or the Blandings occupants. Wodehouse has no competition when it comes to old fashioned sweet and untainted humor.
