Harry Gilmore has no idea of the terrible danger he faces when he meets a beautiful girl in a local student bar. Drugged and abducted, Harry wakes up in a secure wooden compound deep in the Welsh countryside, where he is groomed by the leaders of a manipulative cult, run by the self-proclaimed new messiah known as The Master.
When the true nature of the cult becomes apparent, Harry looks for any opportunity to escape. But as time passes, he questions if the master’s extreme behavior and teachings are the one true religion. With Harry’s life hanging by a thread, a team of officers, led by Detective Inspector Laura Kesey, investigate his disappearance. But will they find him before it’s too late?

Possible spoiler for those about to read: I felt the posted synopsis for the story was off. It states that Harry starts to believe the teachings of The Master and implies he gets all comfortable while in The Community. While it was mentioned once that he found an affinity for gardening while there, I didn't think there were any other indications that he did start to believe. He didn't really even have the time. And in fact, he fought the ideas the whole time while acting like he believed in order to avoid punishment-- even when Ankara was asking him his thoughts about The Community when they were in the bedroom together. I almost feel tricked by the synopsis. :(
I'm not sorry I got this audiobook and will probably even listen to it again in the future. However, I wanted to post my thoughts about the synopsis implying things that weren't true, and that I wish it'd been a bit longer to develop the characters better.
Not as dramatic as I'd expected...
