About this listen

Once Upon a Broken Heart marks the launch of a new series about love, curses, and the lengths that people will go to for happily ever after from #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Garber

"Soler embodies a fairy-tale world full of vibrant characters with unique voices . . . This sultry fantasy will leave listeners guessing to the very end." —AudioFile Magazine

For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in true love and happy endings…until she learns that the love of her life will marry another.

Desperate to stop the wedding and to heal her wounded heart, Evangeline strikes a deal with the charismatic, but wicked, Prince of Hearts. In exchange for his help, he asks for three kisses, to be given at the time and place of his choosing.

But after Evangeline’s first promised kiss, she learns that bargaining with an immortal is a dangerous game—and that the Prince of Hearts wants far more from her than she’d pledged. He has plans for Evangeline, plans that will either end in the greatest happily ever after, or the most exquisite tragedy....

Dear Listener,

What made me want to write more about the Prince of Hearts?
"My favorite trope is the deadly love interest. I love the tragedy and the tension of knowing that two characters can’t be together because if they ever truly were, one of them would die. The Prince of Hearts is the embodiment of this. It’s said that the Prince of Hearts is incapable of love because his heart stopped beating long ago. Only one person can make it beat again: his one true love. His kiss is deadly to all except for her, and as he’s searched for her, he’s left a trail of corpses. The Prince of Hearts is a monster, but he looks like a fallen angel. It’s easy to be tricked by him, and it’s terribly fun to write about him, because it’s also said that although his kiss is deadly, it’s absolutely worth dying for. " – Stephanie Garber, writer of Once upon a Broken Heart

Imaginative but a little juvenile

I thought this was very fun but it’s definitely written for a younger audience. I’ve recommended the series to my 15yo daughter. She loves them.

The story is fun. Totally worth a try if you like the genre.

LOVE THIS STORY!

I originally read the book earlier this year but I loved it so much I had to give the audiobook a chance too. The narrator did a wonderful job capturing the magic of this story. Please give this book a listen!

Children’s fairytale come to life

Once upon a broken heart, it’s a beautiful little fairytale that felt like it was straight off the pages of Grimms. Just enough realism, just enough fantastical elements, just enough angst, and just enough hope. A recipe for a beautiful story I will definitely be reading the sequel on.

Whimsy

Love the story, but I don’t enjoy this narrator. I’m not sure what it is about her approach, it’s just not for me

intriguing concept and world

great concept and world. but did not care for the protagonist or narrator.

I didn't care for Evangeline. she was a dense Mary Sue to me. and I think the narrators voice exacerbated that feeling. nothing in the book was more annoying than Evangeline having an emotional freak out where she always does or says something stupid.

the narrator is ok, but I didn't like any of her character voices except for Lala or the intonation she often used for the men.

overall still a good book. mainly because the concept and world is unique and interesting. I'll be checking out book 2.

while many things were predictable, there were still some good surprises.
