Publisher's summary

With her brother, Thomas, injured on the battlefront in the colonies, orphaned Cecilia Harcourt has two unbearable choices: move in with a maiden aunt or marry a scheming cousin. Instead she chooses option three and travels across the Atlantic, determined to nurse her brother back to health.

But after a week of searching, she finds not her brother but his best friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby. He's unconscious and in desperate need of her care, and Cecilia vows that she will save this soldier's life, even if staying by his side means telling one little lie.

When Edward comes to, he's more than a little confused. The blow to his head knocked out three months of his memory, but surely he would recall getting married. He knows who Cecilia Harcourt is - even if he does not recall her face - and with everyone calling her his wife, he decides it must be true, even though he'd always assumed he'd marry his neighbor back in England.

Cecilia risks her entire future by giving herself - completely - to the man she loves. But when the truth comes out, Edward may have a few surprises of his own for the new Mrs. Rokesby.

A great story.

Well defined characters. Interesting storyline. Realistic interpretation of eighteenth century English in New york! Characters I am very familiar with. You see I have read all your very wonderful books.

Good story. Could do without the graphic sex

I mostly liked the book except for the 100 times I kept yelling “ Just tell him now!” They never really have a good reason why she never told him they weren’t married, especially when he gave her an out. And the sex scenes really made me laugh. I highly doubt any 18 th century man would be that attentive to a women’s needs. I believe it was more about his needs, just doing the deed. But it is fantasy written for today. If it was written with reality, women would definitely not want to read it. If you want something quick and entertaining and don’t mind the graphic sec I would recommend it.

The Heart of a Man

Edward is truly a hero to me. There’s a vulnerability in his heart. As strong and gentlemanly as he is, he also shows his heart in so many ways. As he falls in love with his wife, he also sees her heart. When things start to go awry, he goes into action and makes things right. It wasn’t easy for him since his emotions were at war with each other. Once he got past what he thought was betrayal, he saw clearly what he had to do in order to be happy for the rest of his life.

Really fun read!

I honestly hope she somehow incorporates these stories to be made into the Netflix TV show because this book particular to me stood out it was the first and the Bridgerton series actually make me cry. It was just so sweet and really fun to read.

Fantastic

I have been devouring this series since I started with the first one. I googled Bridgerton books in order after reading the first 8. I love each one. The characters are lovable. The stories keep me wanting more and more. Each book I finish and say that one is my favorite! The narrator does an excellent job!

Entertaining

It’s a good story but feel as the ending was rushed. Happy ending but still...

Delightful As Always

I had some reservations about getting this book as I was put off a bit by the description. I'm not a fan of deceptions and relationships starting off with secrets and lies but I really like Julia Quinn and she's never let me down before so I went ahead. I'm glad I did.

The pacing was a bit slow in spots but I really enjoyed the relationship between the two characters and was very happy that there was no melodramatic displays once the truth came out. I had some issues with Cecilia keeping the truth from Edward as long as she did but I suppose we wouldn't have had a story of she hadn't. I can't wait for Andrew's story.
