About this listen
After working with thousands of dogs with leash aggression, dog aggression, human aggression, resource guarding, separation anxiety, and overall troublesome behavior, world-renowned trainer Sean O’Shea, owner and founder of The Good Dog Training and Rehabilitation; saw some recurring themes consistently derailing the human/dog relationship. Sean discovered that countless trainers and owners were struggling to not only understand these issues but more importantly, to put clear, concise, easy-to-understand words to them.
The Good Dog Way: Love Them by Leading Them, fills that incredibly important gap. Until its release, dog training books almost exclusively focused on training mechanics, commands, and rules, but had missed the all-important "why".
Why were we struggling?
Why were we making the same mistakes over and over?
Why were our dogs a mess?
Something big was indeed missing, and without this critical piece, the foundational "why" underneath it all, even the best training and coaching practices were still struggling. Pouring several years into compiling, writing, and re-writing, he crafted a training book like no other. A book which clearly articulated how our human emotional tendencies, intellectual misconceptions, as well as a lack of understanding of our dog's true needs, were deeply sabotaging our best intentions. A book which offered simple, but profound answers for these struggles.
Note: This book is based on a balanced approach and philosophy to dog training. Its focus is on practical, realistic, and most of all, effective training. If the idea of sharing consequences with your dog for poor or dangerous choices; or if using modern, effective, and humane tools such as prong or e-collars is not in alignment with your beliefs, then this is likely not the right audiobook for you.

Story
No matter where we are in life, we all have a gap. It's the space between our current reality and our untapped, unrealized potential. Our work, if we are to be of the best service to ourselves, our families, and the rest of the world, is to close that gap a little more every day. These are the principles I employed that took me from being a broke and broken valet at 40, to just a handful of years later becoming a successful entrepreneur, author, and world-renowned dog trainer. By closing the gap in knowledge, we can close the gap in potential.

Story
Dogs are one of the most popular companion animals, and many of them go through life confident and happy with the world around them. A significant number do not - the scared dogs, the anxious dogs, the ones that are terrified when approached by another dog, person, or a whole range of possible things. These dogs react to the causes of their fear in a range of ways, all of which combine to make what are called "reactive dogs", the ones that cannot cope and have to find a way to tell us.

Balanced Trainer MUST read
This book was incredible. It re-affirmed so much for me and made me feel educated and also convicted. There’s no growth in a place of Pitty. This book is an incredible tool that EVERY dog owner should read.

Truth bombs
I listed to this book straight through. I asked about an audio book and lo and behold it came out a few weeks later. I t brought tears to my eyes because it speaks so much truth about how your interactions with dogs can impact their life. this is an amazing listen!

inspiring
As a baby dog trainer, I love Sean's social media presence. I've been fostering large dogs for years and this reinforced my methods for bringing dogs in and successfully teaching them to behave like solid citizens.
thank you for this book.

incredible
I loved it. There is so much we can glean from this book. I normally have a hard time investing and sticking with a book. Not with this baby.

unexpectedly incredible
This has been the parenting book that I didn't know I needed. Seriously, I've read dozens of parenting books for my three small children and none have come close to the profundity of Sean's book about leading your dog. lol, it sounds silly but it is VERY true. I'm so glad that I heard about TGD before I bought my puppy three weeks ago. I am certain that I would have ended up with a troubled dog who was anxious and manipulative of me were it not for the reading of this amazing book. Now I just need to step up my leadership with my little baby humans and maybe I'll see the anxiety and manipulation dissipate from them too.♡ Thank you so much Sean! God bless you and your staff!

Excellent info for dog training
This book helped me see dog training in a new way. While I have successfully owned and trained many large breed working dogs in my life this far, I adopted a Doberman that really challenged my training abilities to the point of failure. I ended up reaching out to a trainer in my area for help, and they utilized this method out training and require that you read/listen to this book so you can follow through appropriately after the dog has the initial training. I found the information made a lot of sense, and am looking forward to my future working with my well balanced dog.

Sean O’Shea Knows Dogs!
I’ve been following Mr. O’ Shea on Instagram for some time and have found his training tips and techniques rock-solid.
This book further demonstrates his tremendous knowledge of the canine species as well as the ideology of what’s being pushed by some popular training methods that have created major issues with dogs today resulting in aggression and often preventable euthanasia.
As a Dog Behaviorist, I am well aware of these issues, but continue to learn more valuable information from those more experienced than myself, like Mr. O’ Shea. And I can attest through my years of learning and observing dogs that his methods are sound and based on the natural instincts/needs (the real science) of the canine species.
Everyone that has a dog or thinking about getting a dog should read this book!
