About this listen

The Good Life Handbook is a rendering of Enchiridion in plain English. It is a concise summary of the teachings of Epictetus, as transcribed and later summarized by his student Flavius Arrian.

The handbook is a guide to the good life. It answers the question, "How can we be good and live free and happy, no matter what else is happening around us?"

Ancient Stoics lived in a time of turmoil under difficult conditions. So, the solutions they found to living free were tested under very stringent conditions. For example, the author of this handbook was a lame slave who made himself free and happy later in life by following the principles set out in this audiobook.

Now The Stoic Gym offers The Good Life Handbook by Dr Chuck Chakrapani to interested listeners.

New Takeaways with Each Rehearing

At only 39 minutes, I skip the introduction and listen to this over and over in the background while I clean or get dressed. Depending on what is going on in life, I always find a new insight and perspective. Each chapter is short, sweet, and to a sharp point. A true handbook you will revisit.

Enjoyed

Overall I enjoyed this version of Enchiridion. The sound quality isn’t the best, but you can tell the reader is reading something he actually knows about and is passionate about. I also like the translation as it slightly differs from other versions and I feel I grasped a few new concepts from this work. Worth it considering it costs <$3 🙂

Life of beauty and creativity

This short simple and easy to read or listen is sweet. Fundamentally very sound. To quote Benjamin Franklin “Well done is better than well said”.
