About this listen

Written to help listeners better understand Jesus's life, death, and ultimate mission, this new book by well-known preacher John MacArthur looks at an important - yet often misunderstood - section of the Bible: Isaiah 53. Often hailed as one of the greatest chapters in the Bible, this passage foretells the crucifixion of Jesus, a critical event in God's ultimate plan for salvation.

Explaining the prophetic words of Isaiah 53 verse by verse, MacArthur highlights important connections to the history of Israel and to the New Testament - ultimately showing us how these prophetic words to ancient Israel illuminate essential truths for our lives today.

My Favorite John Macarthur Book

Isaiah 53 is the gospel in the Old Testament. Any unbiased Western-educated person should recognize this chapter's poetic prose as applying to only one individual in history-- Jesus of Nazareth.

Awesome account of the Gospel in Isaiah 53

Absolutely awesome. This book really helped reveal to me the prophetic gospel of Christ in Isaiah 53. As usual MacArthur is masterful in his exposition and the narrator, who had done other MacArthur works is superb. Really enjoyed it, I keep re-listening to parts with bible at hand. Really ties together for me the state of Judaism and Christianity as well.

Superb explanation of Isaiah 53 and its relevance

In depth, but understandable throughout. An excellent explanation of Isaiah 53 and what it means to both Jew and Christian. It pulls no punches on identifying sin and the sinner and the propitiation we have available.

Good book

Loved everything about this book except the last chapter. It answered many of the questions I’ve had about Isaiah 53 and other Old Testament passages about Christ in the old testament.

Expectations exceeded

Johnny Mac is the current gold standard for preaching. I expected this book to be exceptional. What surprised me was the Narrator. Bob Souer, I was wondering whether or not he had memorized the whole book! Many narrators are too slow, Bob rocked this excellent book!
