Publisher's summary

Brilliant scientist Linnea Newberry is on the adventure of a lifetime, traveling the Santa Fe Trail with her grandfather, Dr. Powell, on a botanical expedition to Colorado Territory. She longs to be taken seriously by the other team members, but at every calamity she faces, her grandfather threatens to send her home.

After watching his ma suffer and die in childbirth, Flynn McQuaid has sworn off women and marriage forever. Headed west to start a new life, he has his hands full not only taking care of his younger siblings but also delivering cattle to his brother. He doesn't need more complications.

When Flynn rescues Linnea from drowning during a river crossing, Dr. Powell promptly hires Flynn-unbeknownst to Linnea-to act as her bodyguard for the rest of the trip. As Flynn fights against the many dangers of the trail, he soon finds himself in the greatest danger of all-falling for a woman he's determined not to love.

A Beautiful story of love forgiveness and facing one's fears.

I enjoyed the second book of this series. I enjoyed taking the adventure of driving cattle west while watching a love story unfold. the themes of the book of trusting God overcoming fear, forgiveness, and the unconditional love of God and family are woven gracefully throughout the plot. it was a lovely light read set in the West.

Couldn’t put the book down so I bought the audiobook too

Mrs Hedlund,
You’ve done it again. Wow. I didn’t think you could top A Cowboy for Keeps, but I think that’s exactly what you did. I now want to go read these two books back to back to get the full effect. I was given a copy in exchange for a review, but once I received it I couldn’t put it down and I needed more— so I went ahead and bought the audiobook so I didn’t have to stop. I finished it in less than a day, many thanks to the narrator for making it easy to do my chores and devour this book. This was completely worth the audible credit, I have no regrets other than for the fact I have to wait for the next release.

I knew at the end of McMuscle’s book (A Cowboy for Keeps), when we were gifted that little preview of Flynn, that Mrs. Hedlund had created a character every reader would love. He is McSweetie to the tenth power. I don’t even think McSweetie really describes him, but McSelfless doesn’t sound as good.

If you’re looking for a book that has some adventure, slow burn romance, a ribbon of Christian faith woven through, and a Cowboy hero that will leave you melting— then run to this one right now.

Truly, The Heart of a Cowboy was the perfect name. I felt so many feelings throughout, my heart was tugged in so many directions. I felt for our main characters. Loved Lynnea, the strong Botanist that was trying to succeed in a man’s world. She kept Flynn on his toes, trying to keep her safe on the dangerous trail out west. Too pretty and too into her work, she would’ve been hurt a million times over if it weren’t for him.

This is a second book in The Colorado Cowboy series, but it holds its own and definitely could be read as a standalone. I just think you would be missing out if you don’t read A Cowboy for Keeps too, it’s absolutely amazing. This series is amazing.

Mrs. Hedlund, thank you for creating a Cowboy series that has caught my heart. This hasn’t happened since I stumbled upon the Archer boys (Karen Witemeyer) and I’m SO glad I have found yours. Now I can’t wait for Brody’s story. My heart is breaking for him, I need some closure—like yesterday.

Amazing. Thrilling and all round good book

Love the storyline and all the caricatures in her books. It’s so nice the way the next book delves deeper into the next caricature and all he or she is experiencing l.

My Musings

An emotional story with endearing characters. It’s got the touch of a redemption story. Flynn had a lot to overcome before he reached the acceptance he needed. Loved Ivy and our feisty Astrid. Glad I found this series. No in love with the narrator because her voice becomes too soft. I needed to adjust the volume several times. A mostly happy reader and listener!

The lead lady was exhausting for most of the book.

I enjoyed the first book in the series but this one was a struggle. The lead lady was supposed to be a botanist but was completely ignorant when it came to life. The author did a good job trying to explain why she was that way but this made the story so unbelievable and hard to read. I hope the 3rd book is better.

It’s uncomfortably saucy…

This is not a book you can listen to in the car with your kids. The story could’ve been great, but instead of a man and woman falling in love it seems like the entire book they’re just fighting the urge to rip each other clothes off. (And bringing you along on their thoughts) Seriously. I feel like the descriptive details of their lust for each other just crosses a line. not something you would expect from a Christian author. I found myself having to skip forward because I felt uncomfortable. Not because I’m a prude, I also believe God designed us with this nature of attraction toward one another… But something about the way this book is written…. Well, it’s like the Christian woman’s saucy almost porn.
Just my thoughts. Something to consider though

Didn’t finish the book. Deleted and returning. Will be more cautious with this author.
