About this listen

A fateful decision from the past haunts a wealthy Californian. Desperate to make things right, she risks everything in this tense short story from New York Times bestselling author Julie Clark.

Hillary Jean leads an enviable life. She has a loving husband, a beautiful home, caring friends, and meaningful work planning fundraisers. Yet she’s always felt incomplete. After a DNA website emails her a match, Hillary sets out to find the daughter she gave up twenty-five years ago. But her hunger to reconnect threatens to destroy the very thing she hopes to gain.

The Heart of a Mother is part of Obsession, a collection of compulsively readable short stories about people pushed to their extremes. So addictive you won’t be able to put them down—read or listen to each story in a single sitting.

OH WHAT A 💩 PERSON JOANNA WAS! I felt for Hillary, I really did. All she wanted was to find her child and here came Joanna to take advantage of her pain and her situation for some cash. I don’t know why I didn’t think of Joanna being a possible scammer, I guess I just wanted to believe Hillary had finally found the daughter she’d been looking for. I loved the plot and I wish this short read would’ve been longer.

I did really like this short story, the story is only 41 pages and was a quick listen. I listened to this one on Audible via my KU membership🎧. Hillary will do anything to reconnect with her daughter so when she finally gets the opportunity she finds out more than the was hoping for. I’m not sure if it’s the story itself or the fact that I have read too many thriller books, but I did see a few things coming in this one, but still enjoyed it. This wasDefinitely worth the read/listen and is perfect for a car ride if you want to listen on Audible.

This was an interesting but sad story. I did enjoy listening to the narrator’s voice.

I could totally imagine all this actually happening. I can't imagine knowing your child is out there somewhere and not being able to contact them. The main character shows total desperation/determination/obsession. When the final shoe drops in the end as everything unfolds, and clues are pieced together, I'm surprised I missed it. This truly could happen, but we move on.

Desperation

Is unconditional love an obsession? A teen who gets pregnant is pressured or forced by her parents to give up her baby. She preferred to abort it. In the future, an ordeal occurs around these events.
