About this listen

Before he can settle down, blond-haired, blue-eyed Robley of clan MacKintosh needs to taste true adventure. So when the faerie Madame Giselle asks him to retrieve her stolen property in exchange for two enchanted tokens that will whisk him across the centuries, he jumps at the chance.

Nurse and future midwife Erin Durie is broke and alone, thanks to a roommate who skipped town and the psychic gifts that make relationships too intense and painful to bear. Then a kilted man magically drops into her arms, looking for a guide to the 21st century, and she can’t deny the attraction. But magical treachery soon throws open time’s portal once more - and puts a blade to Robley's throat. Now Erin must decide where - or when - her healing powers can do the most good - and whether she can live without her handsome Highlander.

In the second thrilling novel of Loch Moigh, award-winning author Barbara Longley delivers more of the action, adventure, and romance that began in the pulse-pounding True to the Highlander.

Time Travel Back, Forward, and Back Again

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was better than the first in the series (and that's saying a lot). Erin meets a 15th century Highlander, Robbie, who falls from the sky right on top of her. Once she accepts who and what he is and shows him around the 20th century (which boggles his mind, of course) they have fallen in love. Then they are both suddenly sent back to Robbie's time where Erin, who has been training to become a Midwife, finds herself acting as the clan's Midwife. Soon, however, Erin is pulled back to her own time and she and Robbie, who remains in the 15th century, are both miserable. This is not the end of the story but enough for me to divulge.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This story, and the entire series, is filled with wonderful characters in superb stories. My medical background allowed me to read between the lines which helped me feel what Erin was going through.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

Ms. Dawe's narration bothered me some during the first book in the series but by the time I got to this one I was used to her and feel she did a wonderful job. There was never a doubt as to who was speaking which can sometimes be difficult to determine.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

At one point in the book when Erin was distraught about being jerked back to the 20th century without Robbie I must admit to shedding a few tears, even though I always expect a happy ending to every book I listen to or read!

Any additional comments?

I am addicted to Highland romance and this book had the extra bonus of time travel. And medical issues. And the Fey. And special abilities of the characters who are descended from the Fey. I can't wait to listen to the others in this series.

A good listen

I enjoyed the story and the time travel tales. How ever, the narration of the story was not what I am use to listening to. I didn't like the speech patter and the way every sentence was lifted at the end. I really did not like the Scottish accent. But I could do no better. It was much better when no accent was used.

Great

It was a great story. I loved it. I love the books that are in a series, I get to catch up with old characters that I fell in love with. This story was another great one. Barbara Longley has a way with a story. One of my new favorite authors. The reading by Angela Dawe was better than the first book I listened to.

Very enjoyable

I like the story. If you are looking for something that isn't raunchy but is still a romance, the. This is a good pick.
The vocal performance was one of my favorites to listen to. The narrator does the character voices well.

Fall into my arms!

Since the first book, Robley of Clan MacKintosh has been on of my favorite characters. I am so excited that he has his own story where he seeks adventure and love. His canny wit had me wanting to know more about him even before I finished the first book in the series. The first book had a lot of turns, where it almost became too much. However, Robely's story is a great balance of dialog and adventure. He flings himself into the future and falls into the arms of a bonnie lass. His thoughts and emotions carry the story and take you along for the journey of a life time. The end is one of my favorites and the narration adds so much emotion that I cry every time I listen to it. You must start with True to the Highlander, but The Highlander's Bargain is one of the best books in the series. I wish this narrator had done most of the work in this series.

Sometimes Fae can be a good thing, sometimes not.

Any additional comments?

It hasn’t been long since I listened to book one of the same series. The first book was very good, so I settled with anticipation into listening to this one. My readers, author Barbara Longley creates one hilarious read! And with time travel. I loved it!

It was extremely amusing Aaron’s reaction to Robley’s ‘modernization’. I loved how Ms. Langley kept me laughing, whether it was from Robley’s reactions, Aaron’s reaction or to my own seeing the ridiculous situation.

Madame Giselle is back in this story, sending Robley through time. Robley joins us from the 15th century. He had been listening to True for years telling about her home in the future. He needed to know of it himself, so what better way than through Madame Giselle.

Once swept into the 21st century, he readily adjusts. Plus he had his own personal guide, the very lass he dropped onto from the skies. Aaron is no ordinary woman, but one with a gift – easing people’s fears and pain. That’s why she was so good at being a nurse. She was close to finishing her mid-wife certification. Robley’s ‘dropping in’ so to speak was a blessing. He roomed and boarded with her plus she was to help him navigate the waters of a new world insuring she had enough money to pay her bills until she graduated.

What would you think if you were from the 15th century, 584 years in the past and heard words like pissed off, debit card, kidding, in the system, insurance, get out!, jonsing, a shift, going out. These are just a few of the words needing clarification for our Scottish hero.
With Robley’s insatiable need to learn he read one of Eden’s erotic romance books while she was at work. He was totally comical, starting to use 21st century vernacular with his Scottish brogue. Aaron, American, used it of course, plus a lot of words he had no clue what they meant, many medical terms. It really was quite amusing having him question certain turns of phrase and frankly had me laughing out loud. Not just a little, mind you. But guffawing loud enough to have my husband stop his work, come search me out. His comment had me continue laughing. I sounded a bit demented!

The story was one lively episode after the other, Robley learning of the merits of living in the 21st century and enjoying his 'vacation'. Aaron very dutifully taught him to make sure when he pees to lift the seat and out of courtesy put it down. (I kid you not!) Funny times ladies!
Robley had the means to return back to Scotland but as each day past, he felt less inclined to return. Aaron was capturing his heart. Some heavy decisions had to be made, how could he stay, how could he leave? And then fate with the help of an angry fairy make the decision for them.

The story line was fun, the dialog was hugely amusing, although events eventually become dire. All in the day’s work of a good writer. Thank you, Ms. Longley for the wonderful story.

Angela Dawe, with her Scottish accents, portrayal of Madame Giselle, dialog and timing in funny moments, and superb storytelling ability made this listen pure pleasure, binding reader to author.

Amazing!

I was nervous trying Audible, but was pleasantly surprised when I listened. I am not sure if the book is this good or if it was the narrator who read it. The book came to life, all the characters were amazing, the story line great! a must read series!
