Publisher's summary

The corpse of a beautiful woman, clad in only a bathing suit, is found strangled to death on a popular Sussex beach. When she is finally identified, it turns out she was a top profiler for the National Crime Faculty who was working on the case of a serial killer. And though she was a Bath resident, the authorities don't want Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond to investigate the murder. How strange. What could they be trying to hide?

Another excellent Peter Diamond mystery

Simon Prebble’s performance is, as usual, masterful, to complement Peter Lovesey’s clever writing style and portrayal of Bath’s favorite detective. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys either Prebble or Lovesey.

Not as strong a plot as other Diamond books.

Frustrating that clues were sprinkled liberally and then not followed up. The story line became too obvious early on.

good solid 4 stars

Very good story and very good narrator so over all a very good listen. Not great, but very good.
This is about 4th in the series I've heard, and I will listen to more.

Misleading précis

Really good book, with complex red herrings. Typical Peter Diamond. Well worth the time. But I had to go back more than once to try to determine how the teaser applied -and it doesn't.

A different and fun plot.

I will be looking for more of Peter Lovesey’s books. This is my first book of his that I’ve read. I truly enjoyed it. I do wish the narrator had more of a difference between his male and female characters. It was a bit confusing at times. Otherwise the narration was good. I would make a few more comments about the plot but I would probably give away too much. You simply have to read it for yourself…..worth the credit and time.

Another excellent installment of the series

The Peter Diamond series is one of my top three favorite book series along with Louise Penny's Three Pines series and Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. There might not be any accounting for taste, but Peter Lovesey has a gift for wonderful character development and Simon Prebble is the perfect narrator for the series.

One Of My Favourite Lovesey Books

Simon Prebble does a great job as narrator. Interesting plot that kept me guessing until the end.

Wonderful

A clever story - and the addition of Hen, Stella and the new DC/ former reporter are icing on the cake. A must-read series.

Diamond

Another Lovesey special filled with red herrings. Of course, Bath is at the center of it all again.
