Publisher's summary

The year 1900 BC. In what modern Indians mistakenly call the Indus Valley Civilisation. The inhabitants of that period called it the land of Meluha–a near perfect empire created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest monarchs that ever lived.

This once proud empire and its Suryavanshi rulers face severe perils as its primary river, the revered Saraswati, is slowly drying to extinction. They also face devastating terrorist attacks from the east, the land of the Chandravanshis. To make matters worse, the Chandravanshis appear to have allied with the Nagas, an ostracised and sinister race of deformed humans with astonishing martial skills.

The only hope for the Suryavanshis is an ancient legend: ‘When evil reaches epic proportions, when all seems lost, when it appears that your enemies have triumphed, a hero will emerge.’ Is the rough-hewn Tibetan immigrant Shiva really that hero? And does he want to be that hero at all? Drawn suddenly to his destiny, by duty as well as by love, will Shiva lead the Suryavanshi vengeance and destroy evil?

This is the first book in a trilogy on Shiva, the simple man whose karma recast him as our Mahadev, the God of Gods.

Best audiobook narration I've heard to date

I had read the Meluha series years ago, and just got the audiobook. Manish Dongardive's voice paired with the subtle & clever background sounds, not to mention Amish's beautiful writing gives it a whole new experience.

Great story. Mediocre writing

Great plot development and tie in with Hindu mythology. The writing left a lot to be desired

Good overall.. Some mistakes in narration

I already love the book hence content was not the problem. It was an issue of the small misread words that affected the listening experience.

An Auditory Experience Unlike Any Other!

I have listened to many audiobooks as an avid reader who gets less and less time to enjoy listening and telling stories. I first picked up Immortals of meluha paperback when I was on the way to india from u.s. I finished the book in 3 days. Amish is an amazing writer and his accolades give him the credit he is due.

Now, I have to say, Out of all the audiobooks i've listened to, none have had a background soundtrack throughout the whole book! Sure we get a few seconds of music in the beginning and the end of fantasy audiobooks, but this, even shiva's footsteps are performed! The music along with the clever writing skills of Amish, and the narration by Manish transports you completely to Meluha for an experience unlike any other. It allows your imagination to roam free and live within the very city. Take part in the battles with Shiva! Dance with his dumroo! Pick this audiobook to listen to. you will not be disappointed! I promise you. Har Har Mahadev!
