About this listen

Sri Ramakrishna is revered in India and the West as a prophet belonging to the spiritual line of Krishna, Buddha, and Christ. Seekers of all religions will find in this book courage, faith, hope, and illumination. You will feel God to be very real and within reach. Listen to Sri Ramakrishna’s conversations and be in the company of a great soul.

Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) had a passionate yearning for the vision of God. At the age of 16, he went to Calcutta, but was disappointed by the materialistic ideals of the people of the great city. Refusing to direct his attention to secular studies, he became a priest in the Dakshineswar temple, where God is worshipped as the Divine Mother of the Universe. By his intense prayer and longing, and through a series of unprecedented spiritual practices, he obtained the vision of God. Through the various systems of Hinduism and the religions of Christianity and Islam, Ramakrishna always reached the same goal of God-consciousness, and said, “As so many faiths, so many paths”–the basis of interfaith harmony today. There came to him all kinds of people, men and women, young and old, educated and illiterate, agnostic and orthodox, who asked him questions about spiritual life and accepted his words as true. Ramakrishna’s love for all people knew no barriers of race, color, or culture, and he spoke freely to everyone who sought his counsel and blessings without expecting anything in return.

This audiobook, read by Paul Bazely, brings to life the words of a great prophet and God-man. This audiobook contains a short biography of Sri Ramakrishna, which is also published separately as an audiobook under the title Sri Ramakrishna, A Biography, by Swami Nikhilananda.

The Wisdom of Sri Ramakrishna

Sri Ramakrishna's insights and passionate search for meaning have intrigued me since my initial encounter about three years ago. Originating from 19th-century India, Sri Ramakrishna was a mystic who tirelessly sought a genuine connection with the divine. He immersed himself in various spiritual practices, even exploring aspects of Christianity and Islam.

For over a decade, my personal journey has mirrored Sri Ramakrishna's quest for meaning, and his wisdom appears to become more pertinent with each encounter. Paul Bazely's narration of "The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna" maintains a steady and comforting tone, gently guiding the listener through these remarkable discourses.

Highly recommended.

A Great Spiritual Treasure now in Audio

The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna is an invaluable spiritual book for anyone interested in deeper spiritual understanding. It's full of wisdom that has helped many people find enlightenment. Swami Nikhilananda's famous English translation has been turned into an audiobook by Paul Bazely, which makes it even easier to understand and enjoy.

When I first heard Paul Bazely's British accent reading the book, it didn't seem to match the spiritual message. But as I listened more, I realized that Bazely's voice really brings the text to life. His clear, calm voice and expressive reading make it a pleasure to listen to, capturing the deep meaning of the book.

If you haven't heard of the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna before, I suggest listening to the whole audiobook several times. The more you listen, the more you'll feel sure that Sri Ramakrishna was really an embodiment of God. And you'll come to believe that by truly following his teachings, you can experience God in your own life.

To sum up, Paul Bazely's audiobook version of the Gospel of Ramakrishna is an amazing addition to spiritual books. Whether you're very familiar with the Gospel or just getting started with Sri Ramakrishna's teachings, this audiobook is a real gem.

Narrator has ZERO grasp of Ramakrishna’s nature

I’m more then halfway through reading the print version, but bought the audiobook to listen to on car rides. I find it unlistenable because the narrator turns Ramakrishna into a corny caricature of a holy man reminiscent if Charlton Heston’s Moses portrayal. Ramakrishna was giddy and childlike, absolutely human in nature. The narrator makes him sound like an effeminate robot feigning a cartoonish version of sublime detachment and transcendence. It’s pure projection and far from the mark. RK smoked, told dirty jokes, and was somewhat mischevious, though pure in heart and truly a paramahamsa. I love and revere Ramakrishna, but this portrayal absolutely misses the mark in transmitting his nature and energy, which very much distracts from the content and message. Fail.
