About this listen

Beloved writer Sean Dietrich - also known as Sean of the South - will warm your heart with this rich and nostalgic tale of a small-town sheriff, a mysterious little girl, and a good-hearted community pulling together to help her.

Folks in Moab live for ice cream socials, baseball, and the local paper’s weekly gossip column. Sheriff Winston Browne has watched over Moab with a generous eye for a decade, and by now he’s used to handling the daily dramas that keep life interesting for Moab’s quirky residents.

But just after Winston receives some terrible, life-altering news, a seemingly mute runaway with no clear origin arrives in Moab. The residents do what they believe is right and take her in - until two suspicious strangers arrive and begin looking for her. Suddenly Winston has a child in desperate need of protection - as well as a secret of his own to keep.

With the help of Moab’s goodhearted townsfolk, the humble and well-meaning Winston Browne still has some heroic things to do. He finds romance, family, and love in unexpected places. He stumbles upon adventure, searches his soul, and grapples with the past. In doing so, he just might discover what a life well-lived truly looks like.

Sometimes ordinary people do the most extraordinary things of all.

Praise for The Incredible Winston Browne:

“Sean Dietrich has written a home run of a novel with The Incredible Winston Browne. Every bit as wonderful as its title implies, it’s the story of Browne - a principled, baseball-loving sheriff—a precocious little girl in need of help, and the community that rallies around them. This warm, witty, tender novel celebrates the power of friendship and family to transform our lives. It left me nostalgic and hopeful, missing my grandfathers, and eager for baseball season to start again. I loved it.” (Ariel Lawhon, New York Times best-selling author of I Was Anastasia)

“Make no mistake. [The Incredible Winston Browne] is a classic story, told by an expert storyteller.” (Shawn Smucker, author of Light from Distant Stars)

This is Dietrich at his best. Full of laughs, endearing characters, and so much heart. Some authors can’t narrate their own books, but Sean of the South does this one so well. Loved it!

As heartwarming as apple pie and baseball

I loved the characters, and each one's unique story. I learned of Sean Dietrich through his daily social media posts. Sean, in my opinion, is one of those people who is a natural storyteller. When I read (or listen to) what he's written, my mind easily shifts to the scene, and the characters become almost real to me. That's a true gift. This was the first book of his that I've purchased, and each time I turned it on to listen I hated to stop. I simply wanted to see what happened next. I typically listen to audiobooks in the car, but in this instance I looked for other opportunities to listen to it often. I love to read, but I really feel that listening to the audio of this book, and hearing the story through Sean's voice, added a special touch.

Unique and captivating

Sean Dietrich hits another home run! I listened to The incredible Winston Browne on Audible as opposed to reading the actual book because I am in my car so much. Now, I am glad I did because the narration was the perfect way to really settle into this book with the characters and the setting.

The characters are all very memorable but the main focus of this book, Winston Browne, is no doubt my favorite. This book brings back all the nostalgia of the past and makes you crave the simpler times, the small towns, and the interactions with people on an everyday basis. In this age of social media, social distancing, mistrust, and cancel culture, this is a reminder that we would be so much better off if we could go back to these times of love, friendship, hope, forgiveness, and respect for each other.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sean in person at a book signing here in Mobile, Alabama and his humbleness, genuine kindness, and just down to earth demeanor makes him so likeable, and just makes me love the books that much more.

Sean Dietrich’s books are brilliant, they bring you into the story and you forget where you are. They have all the emotion life offers and you are reminded to stop and enjoy these times. Winston Browne is a character who you would love to have as your best friend, father, lover, he is a person we all would love to be more like . There is one thing I really don’t like about Sean Dietrich’s books, it is that at some point they must end! Sean, get back to your typewriter, keep these treasures coming!

The book and story are fresh and nostalgic at the same time. What an uplifting small town story with well developed dynamic characters. The wry humor and quirkiness of the townsfolk ground the story making it relatable. Thank you for writing this story and bringing the reader rooting for each character.

Loved it! Refreshing

This story is about a simple man that serves a small town as a sharif. He &
the town’s people have a common love for baseball! He is part of the success and daily life of Moab, Florida. He finds himself dying of lung cancer due to smoking cigarettes, that were given to him when he served as a soldier during the war. Yet he continues his duties in his last years of life, As he and his best friend & fellow sharif keep their town safe one day they get a surprise call and find a run -a -way girl. Then a teenage boy is caught stealing, A dedicated church woman that has never married but is fed up with the old stereotype that she herself once believed. Their lives get inners-twined. His belief to help, which gives hope for their future, even though he must accept his approaching death. This book is a good book for most families.

Good book for family! It takes you back to 1950’s.

The slow and even pace of the story and the comfortable narration made the book sheer pleasure. There was enough mystery to hold one’s attention but the fully developed characters in the small town atmosphere came to life. My only complaint is the lack of black people. In small southern towns there was/is always black folks.

The narration, the story line, the pace
