About this listen

In The Interior Castle, Carmelite nun, mystic, and patron saint of Spain Teresa of Ávila uses the metaphor of a giant crystal castle to explain her theory of the soul and the various stages it passes through as it progresses towards God. Beginning in the outer rooms, where demons are fought and vices are purged, the soul must reach the inner chambers, where it will enter betrothal and intimate union with God. Prayer is central to the journey, as the soul is guided by its practice and each phase represents a different category of devotion. Originally written as counsel for the sisters in her convent, The Interior Castle is a poignant and poetic reflection on prayer, humility, and self- knowledge, and the path towards a deeper communion with God.

Purpose & Meaning of Prayer

With an audiobook, the narrator genuinely makes all the difference, and I could listen to Lucy Scott's soothing, gentle voice forever. The content of The Interior Castle is very profound, and just a few chapters in I'm already finding it to be transformative, but I'm getting much more out of it here than I was when I tried to read it myself. Highly recommend.

It took me a while to finish, largely due to my own immaturity. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear…and wow.

This is a classic that all the faithful should read to grow their interior prayer life. The performance made the experience even better. I felt like I was sitting at a table spending time with St. Teresa herself.

Like chatting with our sister St. Teresa

I liked this because it nourished me with love and honor for God, filled my mind with good thoughts for many hours, and shared many nuggets of helps for spiritual growth and clarity. I gave it four stars because I have other titles that are my favorites.

Time spent with Saints is never wasted.

St. Therese of Avilas description of a souls journey through different chambers of a castle that ends in deep, unmistakable union with God is fascinating. She writes with clarity on different favors our Lord has on souls and how if they're open and receive them with humility God will use thise means to draw them closer to himself, and through them draw other souls to himself by the graces He bestows on them to win more souls for Christ. An amazing listen! I can't wait to get the book and mark it all up with inspirations like I did in my audible notes.

Sublimely Enriching, Inspiring, Deep and yet Accessible.
