About this listen

July 8, 1921. Ireland. A British Officer is shot dead on a remote hillside south of Dublin.

November 22, 2015. United Kingdom. Former police detective Jayne Sinclair, now working as a genealogical investigator, receives a phone call from an adopted American billionaire asking her to discover the identity of his real father.

How are the two events linked? Jayne Sinclair has only three clues to help her: a photocopied birth certificate, a stolen book, and an old photograph. And it soon becomes apparent somebody else is on the trail of the mystery: a killer who will stop at nothing to prevent Jayne discovering the secret hidden in the past.

Good story, interesting characters, bad narration

There is an intricate plot and some very interesting characters in this book so it kept me reading. The research & genealogy element was intriguing EXCEPT for the giant absence of DNA testing (so obviously required in this particular story line) was bothersome. The major negative, however, was the narration. Male voices done ok, but the narrative voice was so predictably sing-song as to be severely distracting.

Superb writer Gripping storyline

This is an excellent mystery of intrigue, danger and emotional ties to the past.
Historically the story encompasses England, Ireland and the U.S. Couldn't stop listening and was engrossed until the end.

The Irish Inheritance by M J Lee

I love the Jane Sinclair mystery novel. I like the way she was close to her father and that she never quit her search even when thing got hard. I just wish the other books in this series were all on Audible.

An excellent mystery

Loved the book. Both the mystery in the past that requires the heroine to search for answers and the mystery of who and why someone doesn't want her to find them make a great story.

Great story

I struggled to get through the 1st half of the book. The Irish speakd Ups and downs in delivery was hard to even listen to but it was a really nice good storyline. glad I made it through the first. however once past the Irish readers part, she did a great job.

A nice mystery

I loved the story, but had a hard time with the narrator. Not very believable.

Sorry the second book isn't available.....

but perhaps not. I enjoyed the historical periods described in the story very much. Good hustorical context and all mysteries are resolved. I read it through to the end. I like historical mysteries and the story held my interest. I wish the second book in this series was available here. That being said, I can't tell whether I dislike the protagonist, or the narration of her. I wasn't impressed by clipped voice assigned to her by the narrator who has read 130 books for this platform. It seems the narrator likes to do voices, and in fairness, there is a lot of dialogue and many characters, a few too many. Perhaps she also found the character a challenge and it shows. In subsequent books, the protagonist may smoothe out or fill in. Sometimes details are overexplained in the first book of a series. This genealogist is a bit of a swashbuckler, if that term can be ascribed to woman. It is hard to like, or even pity, the client, and i don't know whether I like the genealogist, both characters can be impatient and rude. I would like to give the genealogist a second chance, but not enough to waste the vision that I do have to read it.

The story is interesting.

The narrator is perfect for a polite gentlewoman … but not for a foul mouthed female or action sections.

Narrator

Trying hard to get used to the narrator. She has a cadence that is kind of grating on the ears. I hope I can finish it. It seems like a great story.
