Publisher's summary

Can Mancuso and team navigate the treacherous waters of deceit and find the answers before more lives are lost? The truth lies hidden, waiting to be revealed....

When a man, partially disguised with a medical mask and large sunglasses, approaches Joey Mancuso and asks him to solve his murder, Mancuso is skeptical. But when a series of murders begin to happen, Joey and his wife, former FBI Special Agent Marcy, find themselves embroiled in a dangerous web of deceit, smuggling, and theft.

In typical Owen Parr fashion, this crime mystery takes listeners on a journey full of twists, turns, and unexpected directions. Was Joey's mystery man a murderer, a drug smuggler, or something else entirely? And who has him now—the Mexican cartel, the Chinese government, or the Department of Defense? With the help of his friend, mystery author and Miami Beach Police consultant Jack Ryder, as well as the colorful Miami Police Vice Squad's undercover detectives Jote and Tico, Joey sets out to uncover the truth and find the missing mystery man. But as the stakes get higher and the danger increases, they realize they may be in over their heads.

Fans of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Harry Bosch, and James Patterson's many mysteries will devour this well-thought-out and plotted crime mystery. Parr's The Islamorada Murders is sure to become a best-seller just like his previous award-winning novels in the series.

Don't miss out on this thrilling ride—download The Islamorada Murders now and join Joey Mancuso and his team as they uncover the truth behind this dangerous case.

Unexpected Plot Twists, Fun and Suspenseful

Joey Mancuso and his wife, Marcy are on vacation in Islamorada, Florida Keys with the expectation that Marcy’s retirement from the FBI and Joey’s vacation will allow them so much fun and relaxation. However, a boat full of drugs, dead bodies popping up, and a scared young man throw a wrench in their plans. As a result, Joey finds himself negotiating with drug dealers, the local uncooperative police department, and more!

Owen Parr, the author, delivers an intense yet uncomplicated murder mystery with lots of viable characters and suspects. With each character introduced, the plot moves forward at a steady pace with an authentic feel to it. Each plot twist is unexpected and deliberate. Although I have not read any of the other nine books, this one was easy to follow.
The narrator, Randy McCarten delivers a wonderful narration making each character easy to follow. His delivery is clear and calculated to encompass the emotion and action going on at the moment. I enjoyed hearing his performance. I found his voice comforting and easy to hear.

Overall, this is a great mystery that is well-developed with rich characters. I loved the banter the narrator was able to perform as they were fun, appropriate, and well-delivered.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Great

This mystery had far reaching tentacles , as with anything the government gets its' paws on. Just when I thought it was over, another problem shows its ugly head and we are off in another direction and more intrigue, suspense, and drama which I thoroughly enjoyed following. The multilayeres added depth and interest to the storyline. This is a new to me author I will be following for more. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life. I love audio..

An Excellent Mystery/Thriller

There’s something about a Joey Mancuso & Father O’Brien story that always keeps me guessing. Owen Parr can write these intricate stories that have twists and turns, and multiple reveals – and do so in the perfect story length. The Islamorada Murders is one of those excellent stories.

Parr was able to take characters that I know and love and throw them into a new and unique situation yet again. This time instead of helping individuals around a dead body or bodies – he was helping someone that came up to him saying they were about to be dead and needed his help.

From there, this was twists and turns with lots of reveals, interesting details, action scenes, and much more. Parr really floored it in this one – taking Mancuso all over the place. At one point, I almost said, “this is more of a Manucso-only story,” but then, towards the end – I see why it’s still in this series.

The Islamorada Murders rarely let up – and the times they did were to give Mancuso some time to let his “gray cells” rest. Then we were right back into the action. Overall, I thought that this was one of the most surprising stories since it wasn’t just set in one area – with a few locations in between for Mancuso to jump to. Containing lots of “three-letter” government organizations and their even shadier sub-task-forces.

I also want to give Randy McCarten a shout-out – he has done an amazing job taking over these stories and has really become Mancuso. There are certain scenes in every one of these stories that McCarten makes shine with his ability to perform without performing. An example is just the wittiness that Mancuso has. He’s not a full-blown smart-a__ all the time, but he’s close. And McCarten can flirt that line perfectly. He’s exactly the right performer for these stories, and I’m glad Parr and him have been able to put so many out.

As a side note – I feel like Parr is leading up to a story here. I don’t even know if it’s something I’m getting from multiple books or if he’s purposefully leaning into it. He’s mentioned the white-collar crime “division” at his investigative firm. I feel like a bank fraud and/or a cryptocurrency-related crime is coming next or soon. With the addition of JJ it just feels like Parr is leaning into doing something around the dark web, crypto, and other techy – technothriller-style stories with Mancuso kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Great book

I have read all of the series so far. I can't think of one I didn't like. Characters well thought out and definitely enjoy when characters from one or more books come back to help. Bring back the professor! Thank you for your stories.

Fast and fun!!

I loved it! I know Islamorada really well and thoroughly enjoyed all the real world references. I really enjoyed the fast pace and constant action with just the right amount of plot twists. I especially loved the epilogue and hanging out with Joey Mancuso, having a cigar and a drink 🍸. Thank you Owen and I can’t wait for the next one!

Can't a guy and his wife just go on a vacation??

Wow...this one took me on a ride! Joey and his wife go on a vacation and find themselves dragged into a mess. They could have said no, but that is not who Joey is. He cannot just walk away. And, then things go sideways. This book has all of the twists, turns, gunfire and even a scary boat ride. Kept me on the proverbial edge of my seat.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and, once again, Randy McCarten is amazing! Randy isn't just a narrator, he is a story teller. His way of telling this story makes me see the people, places and feel all of the feels. His talent is rarely seen and even more rarely applauded. I'm standing and applauding!

Conspiracy theorists be warned

The best story so far. Excellent narration. The details of locations are surprisingly accurate NC, Md, Fl as ‘I’ve been there done that’ the characters are well developed. The plot is scary and plausible, something Google, Tik Tok fear mongers can relate to. Makes me want to put my phone down before mind control consumes me.
