Publisher's summary

Selei City is the capital of the Imerialte and one of the most desired locales in all of the Skolian Empire. But its thin veneer of civilization is cracked when a series of brutal crimes implicates those in political power in a vast conspiracy. Three prominent scientists have lost their lives to a serial killer—and notes at the scenes of the crimes lead to a connection to the Royalist political party.

Major Bhaajan, former military officer turned private detective, is called back to Selei City to solve the crime. Bhaaj and her crew of Undercity Dust Knights plunge into the Byzantine world of imperial politics—a jigsaw world where none of the pieces seem to fit. As the assassination plot becomes more and more convoluted, Bhaaj is kidnapped, threatened with death, and must fight for her life against the growing number of people threatened by her investigation. Bhaaj has faced all this and more, but now she must deal with something far deadlier—interstellar politics.

Good installment

I get a big kick out of all the real, current science that Asaro includes in her books. This is not fiction written for dummies. I enjoy this minor series about Major Bhaajan even more than her primary Ruby Dynasty series.
Listened at 1.4 speed. Hallett does a decent job of narration.
Recommend.

Page turner

Major Bhaajn, former military officer turned private investigator is called to Selei City capitol of the Skolian Empire by the House e of Majda. In Selie she is charged with solving brutal murders of three prominent scientists. There is little evidence left by the murder(s) but the major competing political parties appear to be implicated. Early in the investigation it appears that Bhaaj had come to the interest of party or parties who are putting her at risk along with another possible risk to the Skolian Empire. Lots of action and twists to the plot. Great narration.

OMG, best one yet.

Since quantum rose, I have been hooked on Asaro, and now this next evolution of her works has left me speechless. Thank you Catherine, again, for reaffirming my faith in humankind.

Wow what a world

I like how Major Bhaajan handles people and the way she deals with other people prejudices. Also enjoyed the guest appearance from characters from the other books
