About this listen

A new ship. A new crew. A different kind of mission.

When Manchester Yards donates a new training vessel to the Merchant Officer Academy at Port Newmar, Alys Giggone recalls the Chernyakova.

She wants Ishmael Wang and his crew to take a crew of cadets into the Deep Dark. They have to sort out the crews of two ships, figure out what lessons they need to teach, and who will get those lessons.

Once they agree, the trouble starts.

Finally more Solar Clipper & Ishmael and company!!

I saw they had published this and the next one and was praying they would get them out on Audible. Well this being the first of the new series has not disappointed. I think the way NL has reintroduced us to our captain and crew was good. The catalyst that is Ishmael always has interesting fortunes surrounding him. Can’t wait till Audible gets the next book produced

Filler book

I just feel this is a filler book. They don’t actually do much in the whole book. No real development in the series overall. Though I am glad the characters get more time in the books.

Finally... another Ishmael Wong

I am happy to be back with Ishmael and Pip again. it's been a long wait.
This one is about outfitting a new ship, creating a new company, starting a new venture.
There's nothing about travelling or trading.
it all takes place on the orbital.
It ends abruptly just before the action begins.
Downside... I listen to these and volume two isn't out on Audible yet.
Hurry up guys.

Where is “The Rest of the Story?”

I stumbled on this author and series a few years ago and have listened to each book in this world with great entertainment at least a dozen times…
Compared to the rest, this book was painfully slow and too much a repeat of the backstory, with little progress overall.
Barely worth the monthly credit I paid for it, would have felt cheated if I had paid full retail.
Hope this great story teller does not do this again…

another hit out of the park

it was like sliding into a warm bath, the comfort of familiar characters and the beautiful world nathan lowell created. i am screaming crying throwing up over this book and so sad to have reached the end. the characters are funny, clever, dense, and interesting and every word and second goes so far into immersion. im looking forward to the next in martha collins!

A comforting return to a well loved character

I've been listening and relistening to tales from the golden age of the solar clipper for nearly 15 years, and this is a very welcome addition to that universe. For what it's worth Mr. Lowell, I think you're a better narrator than Jeffrey Kafer.

Great storyline

Started slow but overall a great setup for the next book in the series. Looking forward to it.

wait- what now? that was an ending?

This was more like half a book. There was barely a conflict to resolve, no denounement. Feeling ripped off by publisher. Same great characters, not worth the price of a book, more like magazine installment.

I wouldn't say nothing happened, but...

...but really, this feels like it should have been half as long and been the setup for a book. This isn't really a stand alone story.

it's probably worth the read if you enjoy the other books and want to continue the story.
