Publisher's summary

The lake was flat and calm with barely a ripple; its dark waters glistening, reflecting the moonlight as though it were a mirror.

Fritz Marschall knew that neither he, nor his friend, should really have been there. They, like many others before them, had been attracted to the lake by the many rumors that had been circulating. He thought of the endless stories there had been, of treasures sunken in or buried around the lake. He recalled the stories of the lake being used to develop torpedoes and rockets during the war. Looking out across the dark water, he wondered what secrets were hidden beneath the surface.

Great Read

The Kammersee Affair was another good read by John Holt.Fritz Marschall knows they should not be at the lake but they are all attracted by the many rumors about the lake. There are many stories of treasures sunken in or buried around the lake. The lake was also being used to develop torpedoes and rocket during the war. This is the story of the search for hidden Nazi gold. There's murder, blackmail, and revenge. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Great Book and very entertaining

With a mixture of fact and fiction this work presents the listener with a very enjoyable adventure with a premise that may have
a great deal of truth.

The Narrator helps make the Book even more interesting and keeps you glued to your electronic gizmo to anticipate the next
chapter.

The characters are well crafted and make the story a good read.

Men would love this story!

This story has all the elements of a good mystery: treasure hunting, history, and intrigue.

Ben Werling does a great job narrating and bringing the characters to life.

Nazi Gold, Murder, Germany Secret Sights, WW II

First grab any book or audiobook by John Holt the story he weaves are so well done they combine both history and fantasy. The way he starts in the present and then ties the pass into the storyline you actually live the story in this audiobook he added sounds which made the story come more alive.
The story starts in 1955 ten years after the war is over and two of the characters are there at the lake for treasure hunting and the third character is there to try and find out what happen to his father who was a German Sargent. As they get to know each other they start to be friends and learn about each others and help each other in their searches. Then you are thrown back in time to 1945 at the end of the war when eight American soldiers comes into Austria and capture the sight where a top secret military test sight was with the lost of three of the American soldiers. After that the war and they head home they stop in New York. Ther the storyline splits into four story for each surviving solder to the present 1955 the lives and the death of one of the soldiers after he go back to Germany in 1946 and is killed after he shot a SS Officer who had killed a personal soldier and friend.
To be honest it is a story of love, honor, murders a real rollercoaster of many emotions you feel and hear in the voice of Ben the narrator who brings each and ever character alive and breathing, their tears, their laughter and the feeling of lost of a brother in arms.

Another great one from John Holt

This is a great story that shows even the greatest of men can be tempted. It is a story of greed, murder, lies, and revenge that are all costly. At a time when the world is torn apart by war, would you be tempted by the promise of gold? When you’ve been away from your family for years, wouldn’t you want just a piece of that gold, even if meant covering up the truth of a fellow soldier’s death? Four men make that decision, promising they will someday come back for that gold. You’ll have to listen to the story yourself to learn whether they do, but what I will say is the truth will cost dearly. The plot is good, but the characters are a little hard to track, and I’ll honestly say I started the book over to pay better attention to who they were. Once I did that, I had no trouble keeping up, so pay closer attention to the names in the beginning and you’ll be fine. The sound effects were mostly cool, like the background noise in the bar that help to put you in the scene, but they could at times be distracting. Unless I’m listening to a dramatic production of a story, I don’t need to hear a knock on the door when the narrator just said he knocked on the door, so a little less of those would have made it better. If you don’t like sound effects in your stories, read the book instead of listening to it. The narrator did a great job of keeping me engaged. He has a pleasant voice and aside from the unnecessary sound effects did a good job producing.

Vivid and entrancing

On the pages of this book a cast of characters came alive, some very different from each other they all felt real. The descriptions of the setting let the book play out like a movie in my mind. The characters and settings combined into a book I couldn't stop listening to.

The story unfolds in two different times and there are a lot of different elements that interconnect, it made the book a tapestry of elements and people all woven together.

The narrator did great character voices, they were distinct and easy to recognize, and the delivery was dynamic and used tone effectively to accentuate the emotions in each scene.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

intense and compelling

From present day to flashbacks provides the backstories, and I found it suspenseful and interesting as I followed along. Multilayered and intriguing! Just enough reality and facts to mingle nicely with the fiction provides an edge of you seat book. I loved when all the lies crumbled and only the cold truth remained. Not pretty, but
necessary answers. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did an excellent job with voices and expressions and background music/sounds to bring in all to life.

interesting plot.

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

I enjoyed this book, found the plot interesting. The narrator did a fairly good job except when he was reading the parts for the Germans in the story. The writing was not the best or worst, sort of in the middle of the road. One thing I did not like was the sound effects throughout the book.
