About this listen

"The mist will fall and the keening heard, when the banshee calls none shall be spared."

The mist has fallen over Killimor, a rural village in Galway, Ireland. Wailing noises are heard in the depth of it, traveling around the town and instilling fear in all who hear it. No one knows what the cause of it is or what it could mean.

No one, that is, except old Malachy O’Neill. He feels that the banshee, who took his wife away many years ago, has returned and is coming for his family once more. The trouble is no one will believe him. Dismissed as a superstitious old man, he has no choice but to watch the horror unfold in front of him.

Can anyone do anything to stop the impending doom, and silence the keening once and for all?

I have been longing for a decent banshee/la Llorona tale for several years and I finally found one! This story was well written, with good characters, and full of realistic, sketchy human behavior that leads to consequences. The setting and time period were especially appealing to me as well. Although not much of the banshee origin is revealed, the story itself just works because of the way the various family ties are detailed. I would have enjoyed more banshee horror action to be sure, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this one after such a drought.

An interesting reading about an Irish family cursed with a banshee's visitation and with some very scary moments.

Nevertheless, there are quite a bit of loose ends as we never get to know why any of this is happening or in which way the marriage triggers the facts in the story.

Entertaining, enjoyable and if you're able to avoid nitpicking at it, a good read :D

And I really liked Kyle Halberstadt's narration.

Quite good

Another entertaining story by European P. Douglas that kept me entertained with the well written story line which kept my attention. The Narrator, Kyle Halberstadt, did a great job of bringing the story to life and kept me listening.

I received a copy of the Audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

A good story. I loved the setting. I would have loved to learn more about the banshee though. The narrator did a decent job. Hopefully we will see more from this author.

The Keening (Audible Audio), my third read from author European P. Douglas. A well written, entertaining read/listen, with intriguing, well-developed characters that I read in a single setting. 5-hours 2-minutes/210-pages. Kyle Halberstadt's narration adds to a good book's excellence. “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." I'll be reading more from this author as I want to finish his Birdwatcher series.(RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A well-written story from a good author

A good old-fashioned Irish yarn. Brimming with atmosphere, the chills come along nicely in this tale.

An Irish ghost story

Once again E.P. Douglas has created a story that wraps you in a blanket of suspense with a dose of creepiness and continues to pull the blanket tighter as the story progresses. To say I enjoyed this story would be an understatement. As I listened to the audiobook, I found myself being drawn further into the story and finally just gave up any hope of multitasking and surrendered to the story. Along with a compelling story, Kyle Halberstadt’s narration brought this story to life with his voices for each character and his story telling ability. I received a review copy of The Keening audio book through StoryOrigin and chose to provide this review.

E.P. Douglas spins an excellent ghost story
