About this listen

This psychological thriller follows a family to their Appalachian farmhouse where they encounter an unimaginable horror.

In the summer of 1994, psychologist Daniel Hill buys a rustic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia.

Along with his wife and teenage daughter, the family uproots their lives in Ohio and moves south. They are initially seduced by the natural beauty of the country setting. That soon changes when they discover a hidden room in the basement with a well, boarded shut and adorned with crucifixes.

Local legends about the previous owner being an exorcist come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose.

This 1990s horror novel is perfect for fans of family thriller books, stories of demonic possession, exorcism fiction, the occult, or thrillers like The Exorcist, A Head Full of Ghosts, and The Amityville Horror.

Nothing great, but alright I guess

I love horror, and I read a lot of it. This was a very average demonic possession story with all of the cliches.

Meh at best.

Felt like a first book

The writing was just ok. It felt like a first book or someone without much experience. The descriptions were basic but sometimes it would get flowery but in an awkward place. I listened to the whole thing and was disappointed with the ending. I was actually ok with the performance but when he did womans voices they got annoying. I thought this was going to be scary and while I could see elements of the story the way it was written made it less so. Or maybe it was the voice actor, I don't know but I couldn't wait for it to be over. I was bored by the end...

Creepy addition to the genre.

When buying a new home you often find yourself wondering if any previous occupants had died where you now lay your
head at night but have you ever wondered what else the
previous owners got into. After all most states don't have to
disclose if there was a death in the house let alone tell you
there was an exorcist and those he failed to vanquish who
may or may not be haunting your new pad.
This fast pace horror follows the Hill family as they make a
fresh start in a rural farmhouse in West Virginia. Unfortunately for the Hill's their new home comes with a menacing occupant waiting to wreak havoc on its new inhabitants.
Fans of haunted house or exorcism stories shouldn't miss this one!
Nick Roberts delivers a creepy but fun story with
references to past favorites in the genre. The narrator adds the perfect voice to this harrowing tale. Listen at night at your own risk! I look forward to reading more from this author!

Amazing Slow Burn Horror Story

Since I've finished this book, I've been searching for something similar to fill the void. Nothing seems to fit, this book was a perfect slow burn eerie story with an amazing end. 100/10 recommend. Also the narration is on point too!

Creepy

Loved it! It held my attention from start to finish and I could not stop listening! Narrator was good, too (it’s always funny hearing men do female voices)!

Scared me!! Chill bumps x 1000

Spooky, chill bump inducing, demonic, it did lack depth in some places but overall probably the spookiest story I’ve ever listened to! Had to listen during the day only lol

Not Earth shattering but still pretty good

If you enjoy books about possession or demonology, it’s worth a listen. Don’t expect to be blown away. The narration was pretty solid but the story was pretty run of the mill.

Good solid possession

The reader does a great job of distinction for the voices. The demons voice was really good. The story was very clear in Romeo and flashbacks. Need the next one to find out about Nora and Marin.
