About this listen

The mission seems simple enough: Extract a pharmaceutical magnate from Russian soil. But nothing is as it appears to be. A desperate call thrusts Captain Tucker Wayne and his stalwart military dog, Kane, into a frantic race to rescue the brilliant-but-deluded Abram Bukolov from a cadre of skilled assassins. Hunted and betrayed at every turn, Tucker and Kane must discover the truth behind a horror out of the ancient past that can be weaponized to terrorize the modern world. As time rapidly runs out, the deep and intimate bond between dog and soldier will be tested to the extreme. It will take all of their skill, talent, and, most of all, trust in each other to piece together a mystery going back to the origins of life on Earth, to discover the key to an ancient peril that can destroy the heartland of America, and, with it, the world.

Excellent

Narrator makes the book unlike the one chosen for the later books in Sigma Series. This by far is a better listening experience!!! Can't wait to listen to the next adventure of Tucker and Kane!!

Cane

Yes

Any additional comments?

If you are a dog lover, then this is the series for you. This story starts with a bang and doesn't end until the very last page. There were times I found myself worried about one of the main characters, even though its a work of fiction!!

loved Kain! looking forward to the next chapter!

i really enjoy James Rollins' writing style. Ive read every single sigma book and Tucker and Kain are my new favorite characters. i think that the narrator has a lot to do with this audiobook being so good. it is very easy to know who is speaking. Scott's entonation is amazing! i never got confused between characters and he can portrait a female character as well as a male. I like the historical and scientific references throughout. A great book!

Kane's words

I love the story of Tucker and Kane and their unbreakable bond. Every time the writing came from Kane's perspective, my heart raced. I got excited and scared for these parts of the story. The times when Kane was injured also made my heart stop. Thinking of his litter mate, Able, made me cry. I wondered how Tucker could carry on with his mission having these feelings of abandonment. This is a very exciting story with truth and wonder combine. Blackwood and Rollins description of the caverns and tunnels in South Africa is, for me, mind blowing.

A new aspect of the special ops soldier

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! I loved the interaction between Cain and Tucker and the interesting historical information as well as the edge of your seat, non-stop action.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Definitely! Lots of great twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I liked the interesting locations and characters in the book and how the plot unfolded seamlessly.

Which character – as performed by Scott Aiello – was your favorite?

I liked them all, but my favorites were Tucker and Cain.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it is quite a long story, so I listened in segments. I'm sure when I listen to it again, I'll hear details that I missed in the first listening experience.

Any additional comments?

I was very impressed with this narrator. I have never heard of him prior to this book. He does a wonderful job of portraying different ethnic accents and sexes and making each character very individual. He has a voice that is pleasant to listen to. The narrator makes such a difference in an audiobook. I've bought audiobooks in the past that have been great stories, but the narrator ruined them. Not so with this one. I look forward to more books narrated by Scott Aiello.

The deadly plant

Where does The Kill Switch rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Decent book, nice start of a series that I would listen to the follow up. I would not rank this as others as outstanding.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Kill Switch?

The explosion inside the cave in which Tucker escapes.

Have you listened to any of Scott Aiello’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It took a bit to get into his narration. Surly not the best, but did a decent job as the story went along.

Any additional comments?

Make sure you carefully listen to the beginning which will clearify the ending.

"In Their Paws", War Dog

Would you consider the audio edition of The Kill Switch to be better than the print version?
Found this book by searching, K-9 and Wayne and Shelly, reviewers, both loved this series. Yup, that's a buy!

What other book might you compare The Kill Switch to and why?
Since James Rollins, is a Vet himself, he gets the K-9 scenes spot on. He has those tender dog scenes e.g. Kane head on Tucker's chest napping or when Tucker tucks Kane in close for a jump!
I love K-9 books, see Robert Crais "Maggie/Scott partners".

What does Scott Aiello bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is a new find for me, and he is yummy!! He brings the both characters to life, e.g. "boots and paws".

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
These authors are not fast pace writers like the "The Grey Man series", but they do keep your interest, like the Clussler/ Issac Bell series.
Note: I do use the new 1.25x speed to match the authors intent.
