About this listen

Can you ever really know someone?

Six years after her ex-husband is sentenced to death for a series of gruesome murders, Leigh Wren has almost succeeded in putting her past to rest. But her assumed identity quickly unravels when the father of one of her ex-husband's victims begins stalking her and publicly exposes her past. As Leigh grapples with memories of her marriage to a man whom she exposed to the world as a deviant serial killer, a more deadly game of cat and mouse begins: A new killer emerges, one whose methods are frighteningly similar to those used by her ex-husband, who is on death row thousands of miles away. With the clock ticking down and the victims of a new, unknown killer mounting, Leigh forces herself to probe the dark corridors of her past to save her life and her son's.

Psychological suspense and harrowing insights drive this highly entertaining thriller from a major new voice.

I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to listen to, had a good plot and kept my attention.

Very enjoyable read

This book was intensely entertaining...I enjoyed it tremendously and would recommend to all thrillers' lover audience. I couldn't stop listening, the creepiness of the storyline became mesmorizing. The narrator did a terrific job capturing all of the personalities while still maintaining the daunting tone of the book. The content was unique and refreshing, well worth purchasing through audible.

A Riveting Storyline!

This was a good debut suspense. The premise was interesting and I liked the point of view if the wife.

Good debut

I needed a good 'read' and actually paid for this instead of using my credits. I am so glad I did!

From beginning to end I felt as though I was inside the protagonist, seeing everything through her eyes and feeling her horror and vulnerability.

I especially liked the way her relationship with her little boy was portrayed.

As the story unfolded I held my breath, figuratively, through the last half of the book. I suspected every single character of sinister intent.

The narrator had just the right mix of triumph and tremor in her telling of this story.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes edge-of-the-seat storytelling.

Superb

This story line has excellent potential, although I feel the author could have done a little more with the wife's perspective. Perhaps developing a more introspective psychological narrative along the lines of the movie "Sleeping With The Enemy".

The matter-of-fact writing, the lack of character development and the over-developed histrionics of the narrator rendered my rating a three out of five. I simply became tired of listening to her constant sobbing, as I am a reader/listener who prefers a more straightforward reading. I don't read hardcover books with emotion and accents, and I don't like listening to them interpreted that way.

But I must add, though that the narrator did a great job portraying the North Carolina drawl, and how bizarre it must have sounded to a woman from California.

Still an entertaining tale, however, and I would recommend it.

Great Concept

Despite a predictable outcome, this novel really appealed to the voyeur in me. The author has a way with words and the narrator has a way with hysteria. I know, 5 stars seems a tad excessive, but I really enjoyed this listening experience. There are not many books to be enjoyed while scrubbing the bathtub.

It's not bad, but it's far from the best book i've read (or heard). It keeps your attention though.

ok book

yep, definately thumbs up. the lady reading the book does an excellent job. she's the kind that likes to act out the character, rather than just reading the book, and maybe once or twice she went over the top. however, I have listened to many horrible female voices, trying to imitated the male characters and all that. this one is a winner.
plot: very very thrilling. there is this one concept that I think I have come across before in a novel by tess-gerittsen, which I won't mention in order not to spoil the experience. let's just say that an exquisite psychopath (if you are a psychopath-conaisseur, like me ;) is being portrayed here, one that will send chills down your spine. everything is explained with psychological detail, depth and wit. the tension never stops, partly because it's quite short (7 hours). totally put it in the bag.

surprise

Easy to follow, easy to listen to. It reminds me of "we need to have a talk about Kevin". Makes you think seriously about the nature of people, and what could possibly drive to commit such horrors.
