About this listen

Best-selling novelist Karen Witemeyer joins award-winning authors Regina Jennings, Amanda Dykes, and Nicole Deese for this Texas-sized romance novella collection. Each of the authors' unique voices is on display in stories where courting couples leave a permanent mark of their love by carving their initials into the same oak's bark.

In Regina Jennings' Broken Limbs, Mended Fences, a small-town teacher has her credentials questioned by a traveling salesman.

In Karen Witemeyer's Inn for a Surprise, two opinionated collaborators with conflicting visions must turn a doomed business venture into a successful romantic retreat.

From Roots to Sky by Amanda Dykes follows a young WWII naval airman who heads to Texas to meet the sister of a lost compatriot.

Heartwood by Nicole Deese is a modern-day romance about the groundskeeper of a historic inn who's reunited with someone from her past while she fights to save a town landmark.

The Kissing Tree

I love the way the books all came together through the generations. All the stories were very well written. The narration was good. Clean romance, highly recommend.

Hallmark movie worthy!

I absolutely love these novellas and how they all centered around the infamous Kissing Tree. Each author displayed their own writing style, so individually they were wonderful, but together the reader better understands the heart of Oak Springs, TX and it’s Kissing Tree.

I could totally see each one of these becoming a wonderfully classic Hallmark movie!

It’s clean romance is perfect for all ages.

Wonderful connected stories!

I loved the progression of the four novellas and the story of the Kissing Tree. At the heart of the town, this big live oak brings the town and couples together, sometimes in unlikely manner. I especially enjoyed the last two, but they were all good.

Four stories in one INDEED!

I like how short and sweet the stories were but I loved the continued theme and connection throughout the entirety of the four books. 8 different individuals one town and one tree through over a century of time. This was quite the listening experience. Some parts got a little repetitive and could have been rearranged to keep the listener's mind from wandering. Other than that, I enjoyed this book.

Very similar stories all in a row….not terribly spiritual!

Sweet (but repetitive) in an uninspiring way. Guess I was expecting more variety and uniqueness. Disappointed.

worth listening to

Well written. The stories worked well together because each author covered different era's all surrounding the Kissing tree.

Sweet / clean love stories with the wrong narrator

Stories are sweet but the narration ruins the effect. Odd phrasing, unnecessary pauses, and over-emphasized words make the stories less than they could be. Unfortunately, adjusting the playback speed didn't help. I've enjoyed this narrator in the past, but IMO, a younger-sounding voice would have been a better choice for the 20-something protagonists. I'll go back to reading the book.
