About this listen

When a new preacher comes to her wild Montana mountain town, love is the last thing she expects to find.

Marcus Sullivan is a born adventurer...and the new preacher in town. He’s not afraid to take a few risks and his ways may be unconventional, but he’s determined to add joy into the lives of these townspeople. Especially the beautiful young mother who won’t have anything to do with him.

Lilly Arendale has fought the anger of prejudice all her life. Her Guatemalan mother and wealthy English father were very much in love and gave her the best of upbringings, but their family was never accepted in either country. Now, alone in the mining town of Butte in the Montana Territory, the effects of racism have left Lilly with a one-year-old daughter and a fierce desire to avoid men at all costs.

When the threat to Lilly intensifies and her worst fears comes true, she must find the strength to release control of the one thing that matters most—her daughter’s life. As Marcus steps in to help, the danger only escalates. Has he finally taken a risk he can’t overcome?

The story is enjoyable. The narration…

The is the 4th installment of the Mountain Series. The books are enjoyable if you are looking for an inspirational romance. I do not like the explicit sex scenes that are in so many of today’s books. I haven’t been impressed with any of the narrators in this series. Sometimes I’d have to go back and listen again to tell which character was speaking. Although I have enjoyed these 4, I doubt I’ll listen to anymore. I feel like I’m listening to the same book with a few minor changes.

Good Story Tough Narration

The story was good and predictable. The narration was difficult to listen to, seemed forced and like the narrator was trying really hard to enunciate every word. Pronounced some words completely wrong, like “hearth.”

The Mountain Series

I really enjoyed the love stories and how God and scripture was imbedded within each story. I loved the power of faith in each book.

Felt disjointed.

I listened to the first three in this series and enjoyed them, but this fourth book in the series seemed disjointed. There was no real depth development of the two main characters. There seemed to be a bit more “caressing desires” and the hero (who was a minister) struggled to keep his desires under control. Then one scene talks about a bondage-like incidence - that part was weird.
But the hardest part was Lilly’s not-quite-2 year old. She could speak in full complete sentences and her voice sounded more like that of a 6 year old. I couldn’t imagine her as a 2 year old because of this. After getting 1/2 way through the book, I struggled to finish listening to the book. I ended up running the speed at 1.6 to get through it.
