About this listen

She wants to forget she ever knew him; he just wants her.

Mabel Sheffield is too tall, or so she believes. It's one of the reasons she has given up on finding a husband and instead, embraces her role as a spinster, dedicating her days to managing her grandmother's estate and her seven-year-old sister. But when Liam MacKenzie shows up at her house to stay for the summer, she's unsure if she can keep her resolve. The problem: He's the other reason she's a spinster.

Book two in the Ladies of Devon series, The Lady of Larkspur Vale is a childhood friends-to-lovers and second chance romance story. It is a clean regency romance that continues telling the story of the four women who make up a literary society in Devon and form a lasting friendship.

Great character development and touching romance.

I really liked seeing Mac fall for Mabel, and coming to know and understand her. His character was a treat, and even though Mabel was very fleshed out as well, it was his character that became my favorite. They're a great couple and became very well matched throughout the book. I really liked Mabel's character too and could easily identify with her and her choices, even though I'm not tall, so the writing must be very good. I loved seeing a little more backstory for Charles and Amelia whose book I had already listened to. It's made me want to listen to it again. Great job as always to the author!!!

A bit tedius

I usually like Kasey’s stories, very much, but this one was a bit tedious. The same thoughts kept repeating themselves, mostly about the relationship surely couldn’t work out for this reason or that! It gets tiresome. Usually Kasey has some very intriguing or mysterious sub-stories going, but not so much with this one. It is not also not as fulfilling when the characters don’t know God. A romantic love story? Sure. But there is nothing like the love that God has for us. Without that, the story is ordinary.

This is a very good narrator but, as in previous narrations, she chooses the oddest, annoying voices for a few of the characters. In this case, it was the little sister, who has a fairly big role and talks often. Children's voices are among the easiest to do! The voice the narrator used was ridiculous and irritating. It did not sound like a little girl, it sounded like an animated mouse! One of the other characters had a silly voice, too. Otherwise, her tone is good for the other actors, and her acting is good. I was disappointed she did not do all the voices as well, because she certainly could.
