About this listen

Regency Christmas Brides: Four festive tales of romance.
'Twas the month before Christmas, and all through the house, four cousins have been told they all need a spouse…

Have yourself a married little Christmas…

Rose Portman, determined spinster, has a bit of a predicament. Her great aunt has challenged her to get married before Twelfth Night and promised that, if she does, Rose will inherit the perfect country cottage with the funds to maintain it. Rose has always wanted to get away from London and Society, and this could be her chance! But the catch is that Rose has to attend a holiday house party in York and find a husband among the guests. Worst of all… she must marry for love.

Webb Rixton, Lord Downing, is attending a holiday house party hosted by his neighbor, but only because his mother and sister are making him. He knows his young children need a mother, but no one could possibly replace his late wife, so marriage and love are the last things on his mind. Still, he thinks he might have found a friend in the refreshingly frank Miss Portman, and a friend could be just what he needs to return to the land of the living. When she tells him of her situation, and her plot to thwart it, he is determined to help her, setting them both on a path of the most unexpected nature.

Will this season be particularly jolly for Rose and Webb? Or will the weather not be the only thing that is frightful?

Charming

This was a charming story with colorful characters. I enjoyed the plot, but I did find some of the romantic descriptions to be melodramatic and corny. I also didn’t find many of the parts that the characters found terribly amusing to actually be amusing. I did like the bantering between them.

Narrator was great. Her tone, acting, and characters' voices were very good.

Depth, Wit, Development, Perfection

Ohmygoodness, this book is amazing!! I have always loved Rebecca Connolly’s intricate characters, formidable stories, and beautiful story development. Oh! I am only halfway through and i feel this is one of my favorites of hers! Characters are so real, so deep, SO witty!, so lovable. And i absolutely love the journey the characters take with each other, and the discovery they make within themselves as they journey together. The connection between hero and heroine is dynamite, but the connection and interaction of all characters is just so well done. And for the romance aspect… well, she always does an exceptional job letting the romance develop naturally, the stirrings of the heart described so well; the romantic tension is just right—and clean!! Which is perfect.

There are many good stories i can rate highly. But this is one that you read and go “now THIS is a 5-star book!!” In sum, it is an exceptional regency romance!

Ps- Jessica Elissa Boyd is a fantastic narrator!!!!

Delightful!

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
When spinster Rose Portman must marry for love by Twelfth Night to inherit her dream cottage, she plans to thwart the challenge—until a refreshingly honest friendship with widowed Lord Downing changes everything. As they navigate a holiday house party full of surprises, could the season of giving bring them both a second chance at love?

MY TAKE
Connolly is such a good writer! I was fully engaged from the beginning, both to Rose and to Webb. I love how quickly they took to each other as friends. Teaming together to find her a way to thwart the challenge gave them opportunities to get to know each other quickly. Things only got messy when they each realized they were growing feeling for the others but didn't know how the other felt.

Lovely, swoony holiday romance!

The narrator Jessica Elisa Boyd did a great job!
