About this listen

An ancient castle. A family curse. Let the mayhem begin.

The wild moors of Scotland, 1904.

Texan rancher Rye Dalreagh, the long lost Dunrannoch heir, has been thrown in the deep end. During what should be the merriest of seasons, he must choose a bride, navigate an ancient curse, avoid being murdered, and try not to fall in love with his manners tutor.

On the run from an unwanted marriage, Ursula assumes the identity of an etiquette teacher and heads to a remote Scottish castle for the Yuletide season, but her 'young charge' turns out to be more than she bargained for.

The Lady's Guide to Mistletoe and Mayhem is a delightfully witty Christmas historical romance with a cozy mystery to solve.

Enjoyed it

I love the characters, they were funny at times, and Rey so chivalrous, and honorable. I think I fell in love with him.
Ursula was a strong willed woman that could take care of herself. I like when a book has that. I really enjoyed it.

Great story

I loved both main characters, Ursula and Rye were feisty, determined and funny. As women didn’t have rights at this time, poor Ursula was legally robbed by her‘guardian’. Rye was a Texas raised Highlander with a tender heart and a straightforward attitude. I loved the chemistry and banter between the two. And a touch of mystery made a romance story more interesting.
The narration was very good, I especially enjoyed sound effects and music.
Highly recommended

Very good storyline

This book was unexpectedly different than so many of this genre. The ending was unexpected and I enjoyed the narration and sound effects. I have read many books by Emmanuelle but this is my first audible version. It does not disappoint.

Will they survive the holiday season?

The Lady’s Guide to Mistletoe and Mayhem is a stand alone title set within the Lady’s Guide series. Ursula is on the run, waiting for her inheritance, when she assumes the position of an etiquette teacher. Thinking she’ll be teaching a child, she’s shocked to find Rye, the long-lost heir, all male. They can’t resist the draw to one another, but will they survive the holiday season?

Oh my goodness, I just loved this book! Ursula and Rye captivated my heart right from the very beginning of this book, and I didn’t want to stop listening! I read this book shortly after it was first released, but having the audio version really brought the book to life in a new way! Ursula had a lot of emotions she needed to process, with the passing of her father and now with her admiration and growing connection to Rye. I liked her courage, I liked her determination, and I liked her heart. Rye was focused on doing the right thing for his family, but I also loved that he eventually fought for what he wanted, too. I loved them together! I loved their passion and their connection that couldn’t be denied. I also really enjoyed the mysteries and danger elements present within the book, too! The narrator did a fantastic job ramping up the tension, and I was just as hooked on the relationship as I was on trying to solve the mystery. I loved this book, am loving this series, and I can’t wait for more!

Exciting Listen!

This is a fun and fast paced romance! Rye Dunrannoch is a Texan and the heir to the Dunrannock family in Scotland. Ursula, I just loved how she and Rye first met!
She is has a secret, so that’s why she surprisingly teaching Rye Scottish etiquette. In the process they become attracted. But, in the meantime there’s a murderer in the castle and so much suspense!
Lots of witty banter with Rye and Ursula. So much excitement and unexpectedness in the book. As the storyline progresses I loved the narrator, his voices for the men and ladies were perfect. I also enjoyed the background sounds.
Another addictive book with mayhem, romance and mystery. A wonderful book and a must listen!

I was completely entranced; love this story.

I look forward to each book Ms. De Maupassant releases. This was no exception and i listened in one morning! I find that she puts forth just that extra effort... such as the bagpipes playing or the sound of the horses... it's funny but those little things make it much more entertaining. The characters were engaging and the storyline takes you on an adventure with our heroine! What an adventure she has. Come alone with Ursula as she travels to a castle, meets a cowboy, has a little mystery and romance. I highly recommend this audible.

Loved it!

I loved this story even more than the first one! On the run to avoid an unwanted arranged marriage, Ursula uses a chance to pretend to be someone’s etiquette teacher. That someone turns out to be Rye. There’s an instant attraction between them.

I loved the music and sound effects. The narrator has a nice voice and did a really good job.

Such a cute cover for a fun book to listen to.

The Lady's Guide to Mistletoe and Murder by Emmanuelle de Maupassant is a charming little tale about an heiress with a greedy uncle who discovers he is robbing her blind and intends to further force his will upon her. As she has only a couple of weeks until she reaches her majority, she determines to get away from him so he can do her no more harm. On the train she meets a charming only lady who is on her way to teach a viscount some manners and how to behave in society. After sharing a lovely time, Ursula discovers Miss Abernathy has passed away in her sleep so she quickly decides to assume her identity and position, at least for the next several weeks. Upon descending from the train and discovering there is no coach waiting for her, she decides to accept a ride from a man dressed and soundly very different from anyone she had met before. After hiding out from a storm with him, he delivers her the next day to her new place of employment. Imagine her surprise when this attractive man turns out to be her new charge, newly arrived from Texas, expecting to eventually be the duke.

This was a very cute story. As always, communication, or lack of it was a key. Rye, the viscount, was a fish out of water and that made him extremely entertaining. Ursula has secret, many of them, and there is no way of knowing when they will come out and how people will react. That makes this an enticing read. Secrets are the best. It was a charming story, with several interesting subplots, and some nefarious characters. It was a good listen and I recommend it.

The reader was Gareth J Davis and his amazing brogue. The most amusing things was to listen to Gareth attempt a Texas accent. It was fun and did not take away from the book as a whole. I enjoyed it. This book was excellent in audio.

I was invited to listen to a free audio book of A Lady's Guide to Mistletoe and Mayhem by the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
