About this listen

Prince Gaborn, the Earth King, has defeated the forces arrayed against him each time before: the magical and human forces marshaled by Raj Ahten, who seeks immortality at any cost and has given up his humanity in trade; and the inhuman, innumerable, insectile hordes of the giant Reavers from under the Earth, whose unknowable motives are inimical to human life.

Now there must be final confrontations, both on the field of battle, with the supernatural creature that Raj Ahten has become, and underground, in the cavernous homeland of the Reavers, where the sorcerous One True Master who rules them all lies in wait—in the Lair of Bones. The survival of the human race on Earth is at stake.

Critic reviews

“The Runelords Saga comes to a gripping conclusion in David Farland’s The Lair of Bones…Farland’s imaginative use of magic and detailed world-building contribute to the impact…. Gaborn is a flawed but likable hero whom readers will be sorry to leave behind. Fans of Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind will enjoy Farland’s Runelords.”(Romantic Times)

“David Farland’s Runelords books are among the best fantasies on the market today. Great characters, a fascinating concept, and some really nasty monsters make each novel a pleasure to read.” (Kevin J. Anderson, New York Times best-selling author of A Forest of Stars)

"The suspense is real, the action is nonstop, and the characterizations continue to convince...[this is] a series that has put Farland on high-fantasy readers' maps." (Booklist)

worst

The author's fascination with torture is astounding. Throughout the whole series, one guy is tortured over and over and over again, like the author is cycling tropes that are most likely to make men uncomfortable, and then rinsing and repeating.

Great conclusion!

The first book is difficult to get through but does set the stage well for these next few books. Very well written. I’m so glad in real life God didn’t make creatures have the brains and abilities like these Reavers in the book!

it speaks to all who wish only best

As cheesy as the title of my review is... This book reminds me of the powers I wished for as a child, and still do today 3 decades plus later... It feeds many fantasies and hopes of a world that I still long for and most of us yearn for... of peace .. treating our earth and every inhabitant upon it with the love and respect that we all strive to gain for ourselves and anyone in our immediate circle... I know deep down there is love and the want to be good in everyone of us... Humans by fault have certain shortcomings... Our fears and idle wants and wishes can cloud our higher and better judgments... I hope at the end of this series I am, at least, left with the elated, hopeful, & fantastical feelings that book 4 provided.

Great ending to a great series

This book wraps up the series perfectly. All the fast paced action that you would expect from the first three books, plus an epic ending. I can't wait for the 4 books in the second series to become available on audible.

Finally a book that moves at a decent pace.

I had loved the series and the story that was happening, but I had a hard time and even stopped and put the audiobook down after the second book because of the incredibly slooooow pace the author moved the story along. I felt barely any story would happen and all the words were being used to overly describe something that was overall irrelevant and unimportant. Finally in this book we get action that happens regularly and the book progresses normally. I wish all three books were more like this one.

Enjoyable book performance to listen to.

Interesting and fun to listen to this book. The author has a tendency to repeat himself several times within the book. Not sure if he is trying to make a point but it felt redundant.
Overall the story is enjoyable to listen to.
Definitely need to read/lIsten to this series of book in chronological order to keep track of everybody. I like the way the author has people meeting up together and then going off on their own adventure, only to meet up again.

The author has a way of letting you think that some characters die yet they sometimes reappear later in the story and are alive.
The only complaint that I have in each of this author's books is that as a story nears the ending, the author hurries to tie up loose ends and forces conclusions and the book to end within a matter of minutes. It feels like the endings are rushed and the author just put an ending together so that he could separate his books.

The Author paints a story so vivid and grand.

I listened to the book in about three days and man did the story go from slow to warp speed. Let's not spoil anything but let's say the world's worst bad guy..... you'll have to listen or read to find out.

This is a well done series

Well done end to a great series If I was a writer I might have let my enemies suffer more but I am not a writer and the end result caused me to think and consider taking the higher harder road
