About this listen

He loves you now. He loved her first.

I’ve fallen in love with a man called Sam. And he’s perfect, just perfect.

It’s a whirlwind romance. And when our dream home falls through just before our wedding, we decide to move in with his parents. He says his mother, Evelyn, is the sweetest person. But I’m not so sure.

She’s obsessively protective over Sam. She wants to know where he is all the time. She wakes us up in the morning, bustling into our room like he’s a small child, not a grown man. She doesn’t want me to be alone with him. And with every day that passes—as I keep having accidents I can’t believe are coincidental—I start to fear more that she doesn’t want me to marry her son.

That she wants to be the only person he will ever love.

Then I overhear an argument between her and Sam’s dad. Evelyn has a secret. And it changes everything I thought I knew about the family I’m marrying into.

From that moment, I know that if I want to make it to my wedding day alive, I will need to be very, very careful....

An absolutely thrilling and gripping psychological suspense novel, perfect for fans of Shalini Boland, Shari Lapena, and The Woman in the Window.

Good story but caution, Its an English narrator….

Narrator wasn’t bad just as an American, english narrator cause me to zone out, lose attention or drift off… I know Im not the onpy one so thought I’d just throw that out…. Good story.

Must be an old tale

It is not “man and wife”! Either “ man and woman” or “ husband and wife”.
The story is rather predictable and slow. Female lead needed to grow a pair!

Uggg!

I’m glad I stayed with it till the end, cause the end saved this story, a story with too many words and too much mind chatter. it’s really hard to believe that a supposedly intelligent woman could make such stupid decisions. No one claimed it was a female empowerment story.

Romance and psychological thriller rolled into one

I enjoyed listening to this. It kept my attention and although a bit predictable if you want a light read with an interesting story this might suit you.

Suspense

A few twists and turns but became easy to listen to. Gave the impression you knew what was happening but a good unexpected ending.

It kept me guessing most of the time until the end so I would say it’s worth a read

better than expected.

as always there will be no spoilers in my review.
this was the classic story with a few twists. It was pretty steady paced . I had to concentrate a bit in the early pages as it goes from past to present. easily outlined but I struggled a min
without giving anything away. I'll say That this book stayed with me a few days. I even confusingly so took thos book into my next book. took me a few chapters to catch on to what I was doing. similar narrator and subject matter. anyway. this wasn't a waste of credit & if you are lucky you caught it on a daily deal.

Rather confusing but still worth a listen

You’ve read the description, so you know the basic plot here. I do so love my British thrillers. Narrator Sofia Zervudachi’s vocal skills go above and beyond. Karen King’s “The Mother-In-Law” at first had me hooked, though midway through, the plot slowed down. The lead-up to the ending was disappointing. King zigzags back and forth, up and down. The culprit was quite obvious, but no spoilers here. I was happy to have gotten this daily special for $2.99 and save my treasured credits.
