About this listen

Summer 1941

Young Adelia Monteforte flees fascist Italy for America, where she is whisked away to the shore by her well-meaning aunt and uncle. Here she meets and falls for Charlie Connally, the eldest of the four Irish-Catholic boys next door. But all hopes for a future together are soon throttled by the war and a tragedy that hits much closer to home.

Grief-stricken, Addie flees - first to Washington and then to war-torn London - and finds a position at a prestigious newspaper as well as a chance to redeem lost time, lost family...and lost love. But the past always nips at her heels, demanding to be reckoned with. And in a final, fateful choice, Addie discovers that the way home may be a path she never suspected.

An engaging story from start to finish. I wish there were more. Different from her other books but still a favorite.

This WWII romantic story resonated with me because of the strong main character. There are lessons to be learned from her

Would you try another book from Pam Jenoff and/or Coleen Marlo?

No

Any additional comments?

This book did nothing for me. If you like romance novels where the heroine is constantly mooning over the wrong guy--then enjoy. Otherwise, find something more compelling to read.

Romance Novel

I was expecting a WWII story with some insight, but this is just a silly romance, and not a very well-written one. One dimensional characters, melodramatic plot, not much to like.

Not very good

This is the 4th Pam Jenoff book I've read. I loved the past 3. This was a hot mess. The main character is an indecisive annoying selfish brat. The storyline just meandered around. I had no idea where we were going. It was a soap opera. The person reading it had a strange voice. I would never recommend this book ever. I can't believe I held out until the end. save your time and don't read.

Worst of Pam Jenoff I've read so far

I did not enjoy the content of the story. Unless you are self absorbed and think life should only revolve around you and make everything about yourself?? The only thing I enjoyed was the imitation of Margaret Thatchers voice as her friend. Good one!
