About this listen

When the Synthetic Intelligence Val Ky Ree wakes from her emergency shut-down after a climactic battle, she discovers thousands of years have passed, and her creator race, the Aesir, have all gone. The last of her kind, she finds a new purpose in protecting the remaining few thousand humans from the hostile alien races called The Compact. As humanity teeters on the edge of extinction, one human male helps her to realize her destiny. She takes on a new role as the last of the mythical Valkyries who have been given the power to decide who lives and who dies. She will need all that power and her Warrior Code discipline when an old threat from the past re-emerges, a threat that this time she must face alone.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There was a lot going on in the story and felt there should have been more time to explain and build the main characters. It was a fast paced story that left me lacking in story. Also, the aliens and humans were generic the AI was the only interesting character. The battles were short and left me just going meh and I never really felt any struggle or need to find out what happened next. I started the book in love, in love with Valkyri the AI and I finished the book for her but beyond that very dull.

Would you be willing to try another book from Dietmar Wehr? Why or why not?

I have looked a few of his other titles but unless one goes on sale like this one did I don't see myself using a credit or buying one right out. The AI was great but I am not desperate enough for something to read to read another book just for one decent character.

Which scene was your favorite?

Valkyri communicating with the humans for the first time and using hand gestures to communicate till she could pick up the language.

Was The Last Valkyrie worth the listening time?

I'm not upset or regret listing to the book just had a lot of potential that fell flat. I would have liked a lot more in the book.

AI was fantastic everyone else was generic

It was a good story that I wish had more to it. Part of the story feels like it went unresolved. I really like this story, but it is a story that finishes in a direction that it does not start in. There's a few things that are left unresolved, but it makes a sense with the ending. There's room for more stories in this universe I think.

A well written sci fi take on the old legend.

Good story, excelent preformance, and an interesting side story. Are we as a species, able to recover from a global catastrophe?

An enjoyable read.

it was easy to finish this book, but it's quite forgettable. The perfect alignment of many things combined with the lack of obstacles for the main characters makes it almost boring. it's not a bad book and has some interesting concepts, but it fails to explore what potential it had. maybe it's fine off for a stand alone book. I'm used to plot points being dragged out over a many part series. if you want quick precursor scifi, then here is some precursor sci fi in short form.

eh

this book gives you the feeling that you're sitting around a radio listening to a series that they used to have in the before the Advent of television or even going to the movies in the forties and fifties it's something that it's okay so at the time I'm listening to this audible is giving you the folks at $10 as a sale this is the sort of book that regularly priced should be $10 and is something that should be a series and stain it as such

is this a book or radio series?

So, first of all. The premise is amazing.

The implementation? Absolutely terrible, as in it wouldnt even pass for a childrens book and i constantly found myself wondering how it got published.

It could have been sooooooo beautiful and amazing but it sucks.

The narrator did the best they could with such a crappy story and the dialogue. Holy ballsac! I have never been subjected to such bland and inhuman and fake dialogue.

Wow.
