Publisher's summary

Buffalo Jones was the last of the famous plainsmen who rode the trails of the old West. The driving force of his life was to capture wild animals alive, including buffalo and cougars. When he saw that the buffalo were in danger of extinction, he worked for ten years to capture enough buffalo young to set up his own preserve for them, which is how he earned his name.

This is the thrilling firsthand account of a hunting trip that Grey took with Jones. It is a tale that takes the listener on a real hunting trip - with constant threats of danger from wild beasts, Indians, and the many pitfalls of a wild country untouched by civilization.

Their are better ZG books out there.

Not as good as the others. The story was all over the place. May have bitten off too much with this one.

A Zane Grey classic.

A typical Zane Grey book. Straight forward and interesting without all the foul language and content that so many modern writers think is necessary.

Outstanding true story.

What did you love best about The Last of the Plainsmen?

A wonderful true account of a trip made by Zane Grey and one of the last of the pioneer plainsmen, Buffalo Jones. He was a famous hunter and sportsmen at the turn of the 20th century. Toward the end of his career, Jones decided not to hunt and kill wild animals but to capture and try to preserve incredible animals like the Buffalo that, even back then, were staring to die out. The book relates the trip they made to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to try and track and capture mountain lions and Jones' attempts to preserve the last of the buffalo from extinction.

What did you like best about this story?

Zane Grey's wonderful prose and narrative skills make these adventures comes to life.

What about Jim Roberts’s performance did you like?

Does a very good job with the narration.

Who was the most memorable character of The Last of the Plainsmen and why?

Buffalo Jones..bigger than life character.

Any additional comments?

For those who are used to Zane Grey as an old West writer with lots of cowboys and gunfights, this will be quite a change but is is a wonderful story in it's own right.
