About this listen

The time: 1931. The place: the golf links at Krewe Island off Savannah's windswept Atlantic shore. The event: a once-in-a-lifetime 36-hole match... in which the stakes are higher than anyone imagined.

In Steven Pressfield's richly imagined, vividly detailed story, golf legends Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen are joined by a local unsung opponent, the troubled war hero Rannulph Junah. Played above raging Atlantic surf and under gathering storm clouds, their match is thrilling competition. But the key to the outcome lies with Bagger Vance, a caddie who carries the secret of the Authentic Swing. His mysterious powers guide the play and leave a lasting imprint on the lives he touches that day and in years to come.

A sports fable worthy of comparison to The Natural, The Legend of Bagger Vance reveals that, in life as well as golf, the real battle is not with outside opponents but with oneself.

Outstanding!

It was 100 times better than the movie. I had no idea what the story was really about until listening to this book. Absolutely loved it and will be listening to it again. Highly recommend it if you love golf and if you believe in a higher being.

Wonderful...but I don't really trust "the cloud".

What made the experience of listening to The Legend of Bagger Vance the most enjoyable?

I have enjoyed this audio book since the days of it being on 4 cassette tapes!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Legend of Bagger Vance?

The moment when Bagger hits three balls at the same target and they all end up in the hole but take different paths.

What about Barrett Whitener’s performance did you like?

His very natural southern accent.

Who was the most memorable character of The Legend of Bagger Vance and why?

The narrator, Dr. Grieves. It is his voice telling the tale and it is a fairly lengthy and very intriguing story as told in the book.

Any additional comments?

I would love to see a motion picture tell this story and stay truer to it.

Quite a bit different than the movie as I recall, but a lovely story and performance across the board.

Glad I read the book ...

Have always loved the movie ... still do. However the book has many different layers to it and as often is true the story is a bit different. Love the book.

Amazing!

Wow, I loved this book. From start to finish I was engaged and the narrator was perfect. Amazing accuracy of golf history by the author and a story to learn from too! A work of art.

enjoyable start to finish

I am not a reader so my sister bought me this eBook. I will definitely be looking for other books by this author or read by this narrator.

So much better than the movie.

Being a golfer I loved the movie and it was my first experience with this story. The book is so drastically different when it comes to Bagger Vance himself and how his relationship Junah starts. This book feels way more sci-fi and less romantics sports drama. All of these observations are positives. On top of all that, I was surprised to hear Barrett Whitener as the narrator as I loved his work on Spider Robinson’s Callahan book series.

Wonderful

Beautifully written and read. You don’t need to be a golfer to enjoy this book.
