About this listen

Jane Hughes has the perfect life. There's just one problem: She doesn't exist.

Jane Hughes has a loving partner, a job in an animal sanctuary, and a tiny cottage in rural Wales. She's happier than she's ever been, but her life is a lie.

Jane Hughes does not really exist.

Five years earlier Jane and her then best friends went on holiday, but what should have been the trip of a lifetime rapidly descended into a nightmare that claimed the lives of two of the women. Jane has tried to put the past behind her, but someone knows the truth about what happened. Someone who won't stop until they've destroyed Jane and everything she loves.

I liked the book just fine but I felt like it was a bit lacking. There was a lot of hype and good reviews. Many claiming the story was a "psychological thriller", that description seems a bit strong for this story. But all the same, it was a good read.

Decent book

I'm giving this book 3 stars, because I enjoyed the beginning and the ending and it was an original concept with excellent narration .
I can't give it more than 3 stars because over half of the book was dark, depressing, and less enjoyable than a root canal for me. I struggled so much during the middle of the book I wasn't sure I could finish, but I did. This is the reason I'm reviewing instead of returning it, but I'm not sure I can recommend it.

As enjoyable as a root canal, but...

I've collected almost every badge for frequent audio book listeners, so I've built a solid base for comparing novels. But I rarely submit reviews, only doing so when everything about the story, pace, plot development, and character growth are stellar - beyond just rating full stars in every category. The presenter is also outstanding, and the voices are well acted and easily differentiated. You can read about the story as part of perusing books that are on offer. Another laudable aspect of the story is that it can't be pigeon-holed into a genre. Well worth a credit!!!

Suspense beyond any formula!

I have a habit of reading pretty heavy books, but every now and again, a light read is just what the doctor ordered. Then again, I do like my light "beachy" reads to have some substance to them.
This book and performance fits the bill. A strange setting, flashbacks, people who aren't as they seem... coupled with a gripping performance by Penny Rawlins, it kept me listening for hours!

It's more than just a romance, though there is a romantic interest. It's more than a mystery, though there are mysterious aspects. It's not a treatise on New Age cults, though the strange group in Nepal fits the bill. You need to somewhat strain credibility, but by the time I got to that point I didn't care; I just had to know what happened next, and why.

Well worth your time and credit.

A Solid Light Read
